i'm curious about such SCORM 1.2 or 2004, becoz i can't find 2004 is much superior than 1.2. why most people like to make SCORM 2004 courses? i think most SCORM authoring tools can output 1.2 as well as 2004.

and as i know, even Blackboard can't support SCORM 2004 perfectly. so maybe 2004 is not really widely accepted by most LMS providers.

To make the delivery of multiple SCO SCORM courses more flexible and automated, SCORM 1.3 (aka SCORM 2004) introduced new navigation functionality called sequencing. This is the area that most LMS applications do not fully support yet. The reason, it is not as simple as adding some fields in a database to store information and report on it. It involves reading the imsmanifest and analyzing how all the pieces fit together and how they should flow. Prior versions of SCORM were fairly straight forward in comparison.

The advantage to this type of navigation is being able to make a course that contains multiple paths through it, and package each path as a separate SCO. Then the LMS determines which SCO to present next based on criteria in the imsmanifest and the learners performance in the previous SCO.

Of course, there are other changes that were made in SCORM 2004, and not all LMS applications have been fully updated with all the changes. Most tools do not even fully support SCORM 2004, but as SCORM 2004 sequencing becomes more popular and demanded, both tools and LMS applications will have to be updated or lose market share.

Ron, thanks for your explaining. I agree that LMS providers would catch the SCROM 2004 support for the market. And the SCORM 2004 sequencing looks great, I'll have a look on details.
