Total Time Spent Online on a Course ... Display

Hello,

Could anyone please advise if there is any way that the system tracks how much time a student has spent online on a particular course? 

For example, we have some minimum requirements that the students must spend x hours on the online system.

Does moodle track this, and is there any way we can have the student view this information as well -- cumulative (from the time he/she registered), and by access dates details?

The problem is, although in the logs you can see when the student logs on and goes to your course it doesn't actually mean they are there actually working on it - unless they are doing every activity every minute. What if there is a lot of reading involved? Just because they are on there for a few hours doesn't mean they are doing the reading - they might be logged in and somewhere else in cyberspace smile I think there ARE some answers for you but maybe you would like to go over to the General Problems forum and ask there. (Or you could search, as the issue has been raised before )

Hi Mary,
Check out Modules and Plugins. There is a new block with a sort of misleading name "Course dedicated block". Think that is what you are looking for. Evidently it will tell you the total time all particpants have dedicated to a specific course, or the total time one participant has dedicated to that specific course. If there are time constraints, the clock stops once they read their limit.

Hi Chris,

Just an FYI that found that I have version 1.9.  Thanks very much for pointing me to this.  I have installed now as a new block.

I can't, however, seem to find the instructions to be able to use this.  For example, how do I, as an administrator, access this for each student?

Also, how do I set up so that each student can see his/her own cumulative time spent on a course.
