What exactly is the free component? It says the Moodle plug-in is free but what exactly is that? Is there an explanation or screen shot of that free part?

As I looked at the videos on: http://www.wiris.com/content/view/96/107/lang,en/ ,it says it is the Moodle plugin but the description the tools are the same ones in the previous link saying it's a commercial product! Can someone please clear this up? Thanks!

Also, does this plugin work for version 1.9.1?

The pluginwiris-package that integrates the Wiris math editor into the Moodle HTML-editor is free. For a while the math editor (which is a Java-archive that is not included in the integration package) was free as well. I had everything installed and working in Moodle 1.8.

Now the math editor is not available for free anymore. At least I wasn't able to find it on the Wiris website.

Wiris breaks the switch (<>-button) from WYSIWYG-mode to HTML-mode in 1.8 and 1.9.1. Once you have used the button, you cannot switch into HTML-mode for a second time. As an alternative to Wiris, you might want to try the DragMath-plugin.

Today we noticed a little problem with the download of a ZIP file. In a few hours (in the morning at our offices in Barcelona) the problem will be solved.

Hi Melissa,

I am Ramon Eixarch from Maths for More, company responsible for WIRIS tools.

WIRIS Plugin, that is the component connecting your Moodle with our tools WIRIS Editor and WIRIS CAS, is free. That components is useless without being linked to commercial components.

WIRIS Editor and WIRIS CAS are commercial products. We offer them as a hosted service for reasonable prices. Those services can also be hosted in your server. It is only reasonable to host the service in your server if you are running a quite big Moodle installation.

We offer a FREE DEMO service of WIRIS Editor and WIRIS CAS for everybody to easily test our tools. You can use it as long as you want to test the application.

PS: In some regions the government offers free access to WIRIS CAS or WIRIS Editor. That makes it free for schools to use WIRIS Tools.

Hi David,

In the case of a school of 2000 students our recommendation is to use
the hosted version. The version installed on your server is meant for
universities or large installations of Moodle (including from cost
point of view).

You ask about downloading WIRIS CAS to your server and tell me that
you've installed WIRIS Editor. Be aware that you have downloaded only
part of the editing system of formulas. Each time you create a formula
there is a call to an image web service resident in www.wiris.net

About FREE use of WIRIS tools. Our policy is not to request a license
to schools making a reduced use of the service. We keep track of the
use of the service since the web service is offered from our servers.
