The Moodle Expert (m/f) reports to the Department Manager and works closely with the Pedagogical Experts and Instructional Designers. He/she is an expert on technological features and advises the team administering the Moodle LMS hosting language courses (30 languages) for Erasmus participants. He/she ensures the learning plan fits Moodle specifications and makes the most of core Moodle features. He/she acts as point of contact for the technical team of the client Moodle administration.
Details of the function
- Participate in the design of application architecture, search for solutions for non-standard Moodle implementation tasks.
- Develop functional modules of an e-learning system based on LMS Moodle.
- Implement and adapt new plugins.
- Provide guidance and advice to the team and to the client.
- Act as 3rd line of technical support on the operational aspects of the e-learning system:
- Provide operational/technical support of the Moodle platform, such as event monitoring, log file maintenance and performance tuning.
- Monitor system and resolve underlying issues.
- Configure server including setting up and maintaining a load balanced multi-server environment.
- Deploy and configure major software releases including Apache, PHP and Moodle.
- Administer the Moodle applications.
- Prepare process to upload content on Moodle databank such as question bank.
- Select and/or prepare formats, menus, page layout, text, graphics, etc. for individual courses on the LMS.
- Advise on the creation of new user accounts, both manually and via bulk uploads, and manage course enrollment keys.
- Select, configure, and prepare course resources and activities.
- Set up and configure class gradebooks and attendance.
- Design, develop and modify program, course and student reports.
- Backup, archive, restore, and reset courses.
- Perform technical implementation of gamification strategy : Badges, Competencies, gradebook.
Your profile
- You hold a University degree in Information Technology, Instructional Design or Educational Sciences.
- You have minimum 3 years of experience in a similar position: e-learning experience, technical and functional experience with LMS, digital learning etc.
- You are proficient with Moodle application and its plugins.
- You have proven experience with LMS Moodle, scorm compliance, xapi, tin can.
- You have basic knowledge of PHP, HTML / CSS / Javascript, SQL query language, desire to develop in this direction.
- You are able to debug web pages through the browser console.
- You have a knowledge of English to level C1 as defined by the CEFR (you can clearly communicate technical issues). The knowledge of another language is an asset.
- You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- You are able to work in a fast-paced technical environment with tight deadlines.
- You have demonstrated knowledge of service support.
- You have a strong interest in language learning.
Experience or knowledge in the following areas is an asset:
- Moodle plugin development.
- Windows Server / Azure.
- Development and execution of scripts for server administration and monitoring/logging.
- Development and execution of SQL scripts/queries.
- Practical experience in monitoring a database and developing database maintenance plans, particularly with MS SQL server.
- Customer and supplier liaison.
