We have an exciting opportunity for a Moodle Developer to join our Application Development and Support team in the centre of Cheltenham. The University is committed to putting Moodle, our Virtual Learning Environment, at the heart of our student’s teaching and learning experience, supporting the research needs of staff and students. We are looking for someone to join an experienced existing team who can help us take the next steps

You will be part of a small and experienced team of administrators that focuses on:

-          Supporting and developing technology solutions

-          Delivering a great user experience

-          Balancing competing user demands

-          Keeping maintenance activities to a minimum

 

 

It will involve working with other developers, Learning Technologists and academics to enhance and extend our Moodle platform, to support thousands of teacher and student users. To this end, this role will include making best use of native Moodle functionality and available plugins/themes as well as the development of bespoke solutions, building on the Moodle core.

 

You will find encouragement to innovate around support and system management, and will be working in an environment keen to explore the boundaries of what is possible. We encourage staff to keep pace with developments in the sector and spot opportunities for the University to extend its service to students and staff.

Technical Skills:

-          Development experience with Moodle, or similar Open Source VLE/CMS (e.g. WordPress or Drupal)

-          Design and coding experience in PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript

-          Working knowledge of Bootstrap framework, MySQL database, Linux

 

Administration and Support Skills:

-          Experience of administering Moodle, or other similar VLE

-          Providing end user support (Helpdesk)

 

Additional skills (Desirable, but beneficial to demonstrate):

-          Familiarity with source / version control (we use Git, but would welcome applications from those with experience of others)

-          Knowledge of unit and CI testing eg. Travis_CI/Behat

-          Awareness of HE sector learning teaching and research tools

-          Experience working with communities such as Moodle, ALT, other open source or Education Technology forums.

-          Product issue tracking (we use Jira, but would welcome applications from those with experience of others)
