Applications Support Developer (PHP with Moodle Experience)

Our client is seeking a passionate, motivated Application Support Developer to join its growing applications team. The position is responsible for supporting day to day requests and projects related to the clients Learning Management Systems (LMS) platforms. The candidate will primarily work in a PHP/MySQL environment supporting the open source Moodle platform.

 

Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following.

• Provides enhancement and maintenance LMS instances supporting a variety of clients

• Researches new modules, conducts code reviews and installs add-ons

• Analyses problems and incidents, identifies root cause for critical incidents and identifies, resolves or provides workarounds, suggestions and improvements to control future incidents

• Participates in gathering requirements and planning activities relating to enhancement requests

• Stays current with Learning Management Systems through formal and informal training activities

• Assists with application testing and maintains relevant documentation

• Identifies defects and works with peers to resolve issues

• Prepares reports addressing LMS issues and shares with appropriate internal resources

• Makes recommendations to improve LMS software/system quality, stability and overall process

• Provides off hours support as needed

Qualifications

• University Degree/College Diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline

• Minimum of 2 years experience supporting 24x7 web applications

• Experience developing and supporting PHP/MySQL applications

• Working knowledge of scripting languages and multi-tier application design

• Experienced developing and troubleshooting complex, optimized SQL queries

• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and XML

• Experience with Moodle is highly required & preferred

• Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills

• Working knowledge of caching, sessions, and authentication

• Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete application development or system integration projects

• Detail oriented, motivated and ability to thrive in a demanding, fast paced environment

• Ability to learn quickly, work independently and take ownership of tasks, processes and solutions

• Willingness to work additional hours based on project load
