Position Overview: This full time position is part of the Academic Technology Services team in the Office of Information Services.  The individual is responsible for support, development, security, performance and maintenance of the web-based applications that support the academic community, including but not limited to the learning management system, Moodle.  As such this person has a strong understanding of higher education pedagogical needs and remains up-to-date on the rapidly evolving field of instructional technology.  This person administers, maintains, customizes, and supports enterprise academic web applications, tools, and information display needs and assists with the implementation, security, and system stability for faculty specific web solutions.  This individual will assist other application developers, specialists, and administrators with maintenance and support of pre-developed custom web applications, particularly as they serve the academic community.

Reports to: Director of Academic Technology Services

Essential Responsibilities:

  • The Academic Applications Developer will coordinate and implement all aspects of the Moodle 2.0 upgrade project.   This includes the establishment of a test environment, extensive testing and comparison of new features,  conducting focus groups with faculty and students and creating a road map for implementation which includes a detailed timeline for custom development, integration, communication and full implementation.
  • Support, customize, and maintain the daily function and performance of academic web applications.  This includes daily monitoring of logs, usage statistics, and infrastructure and proactive solutions recommendations.
  • Coordinate with the  UP academic community (faculty and students)  and close collaborate with Information Systems staff to respond to the University community’s academic web application needs.
  • Actively cooperate with, participate in, and contribute to the instructional technology community to continually improve and influence academic technology delivery.
  • Cooperate and communicate with campus faculty and staff to develop Moodle and other web applications to support the University’s pedagogical goals and needs.
  • Cooperate and coordinate with the University Technology trainer to develop training programs that support use of academic web technologies on campus.
  • Follow all documentation standards and guidelines.  Document in a timely manner.
  • Apply best practices of web design and usability to supported systems and applications.
  • Pursue and successfully complete technical training that improves job performance and enhances subject matter expertise.
  • Provide after hours on-call support.
  • Complete assigned tasks on time and in a manner that ensures their reliability, integrity, functionality and accomplishes their purpose.
  • Participate in other projects and tasks as required.

 

Requirements:

 

Education and/or Experience:

 

Undergraduate degree in education, education technology, instructional design, computer science or related field.   Recent experience with the development of academic applications including learning management systems (Moodle preferred).

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrates initiative, leadership, energy and sound judgment.  Strong oral and written communication skills. Work collaboratively and effectively with all stakeholders.    Successful candidate will demonstrate a strong blend of interpersonal and technological skills.

Essential Physical Requirements:

Work on multiple tasks at one time
 Work with deadlines, stressful situations.
 Able to operate a computer.  
Able to move independently around campus to interface with faculty, staff, students.

Salary: 45 to 60K, depending on experience
