Salary: £28,400 - £32,000        

This role requires the VLE & Web Designer/Developer to support the work of three distinct divisions, the Admissions Tests & Special Testing (ATST) Division, Cambridge Assessment Network (CAND) Division and the Public Affairs Division, to maintain existing web interfaces as well as investigating new technologies, and specifically designing and developing web interfaces.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Provide first line support to CAND in the use of the Moodle-based VLE, to support the delivery of the CAND programme. Support internal and consultant writers of content in their development of online teaching materials and activities.  
  • Carry out technical and web interface design and development work on CAND projects, including the VLE, ensuring work is delivered on schedule to the required level, working in collaboration with the IS Division, Business Streams and external partners as required.
  • Carry out technical and web interface design and development work on ATST projects, ensuring work is delivered on schedule to the required level, working in collaboration with the IS Division, Business Streams and external partners as required.
  • Carry out technical and web interface design and development work on Group Public Affairs projects, ensuring work is delivered on schedule to the required level, working in collaboration with the IS Division, Business Streams and external partners as required.
  • Develop sound working practices, in collaboration with the Corporate Services Division (CSD) Programme Office, with colleagues in IS to ensure that corporate standards and best practice are adopted and adhered to for ARD design and development work.
  • Maintain, enhance and create e-marketing materials for ARD with particular emphasis on ATST’s suite of university admissions tests and the promotion of CAN events and courses.
  • Develop a sound understanding of ARD’s technical needs and requirements and be proactive in investigating and recommending improvements and new technologies, where applicable.
  • Provide technical support to ARD and users, where applicable.
  • Act in a consultancy role to provide technical advice on web-related issues across ARD and Group Public Affairs.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Knowledge

  • Technical / Science degree or equivalent vocational experience
  • In-depth knowledge of HTML/XHTML and CSS
  • An understanding of VLE/LMS platforms, e-learning and online course delivery
  • A working knowledge of HCI design principles, along with coding & accessibility standards
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint would be an advantage

Experience

  • 1 to 2 years’ experience of Moodle administration, course management and development, although experience using other VLE/LMS platforms would be considered
  • Demonstrable commercial front-end development experience, using HTML/XHTML, CSS
  • Experience of building websites and managing website content through content management systems, including Infoglue
  • Web-based multimedia delivery (digital video/audio, Flash)
  • E-marketing experience (template authoring, e-marketing software, social networking & SEO)
  • Client–side Javascript development and experience using Javascript libraries such as JQuery would be an advantage
  • A working knowledge of emerging HTML/CSS standards and cross-browser compatibility issues
  • An understanding of database design and maintenance
