Birmingham Moodle Conference

Site event

Location:  The Paragon Hotel, Birmingham, UK

This conference enables schools to learn from key individuals who already fully utilise Moodle, the most popular open source VLE.

This event will enable schools to:

  • Obtain insight into Moodle best practice
  • Share knowledge with existing Moodle users
  • Focus on ways that online learning technologies can reduce cost and achieve efficiency gains in light of the spending review.

The one-day event will feature presentations from current Moodle users in primary, middle and secondary schools. The keynote speaker is Mary Cooch, known online as the ‘moodlefairy’, Mary is a Moodle Certified Course Creator, a moderator on the help forums of Moodle.org and also the author of Moodle 1.9 for Teaching 7-14 Year Olds: Beginner's Guide and Moodle 2.0 First Look. She spends part of her working week travelling the country as a VLE trainer specialising in Moodle and runs her own Moodle blog.

Other presentations include:

  • Guy Thomas, a web technologies expert with specific expertise in the integration of Moodle with school management information systems, including SIMS, CMIS and Integris G2.
  • Colin Wheelhouse, the ICT Co-ordinator at Bungay Middle School- an outstanding Moodle user.
  • Fran Terry, the VLE manager at Falmouth School in Cornwall who are currently trialling Moodle 2.0.

A particular focus of this year’s conference will be the opportunity for delegates to participate in interactive workshops, where they can get one-to-one help with their own Moodles or if they don't use Moodle yet, can have a go with a specially prepared demo Moodle.
