Our Product vision

Empowering you to thrive for life!

Our aim is to cultivate a love for learning: fostering a community of lifelong learners who are equipped to succeed in our ever-changing world and are active participants in making it a better place.

Where we’re going

Accessible education for all lifelong learners

We believe that education should be accessible to everyone, regardless of location or financial constraints, and that's why Moodle is a platform dedicated to empowering educators, trainers, and learners all around the world.
This vision guides our development efforts and shapes our priorities, which are reflected in our three key development themes. Unlocking creativity, Facilitating collaboration and Optimising outcomes.

Unlocking creativity

We aim to empower educators and learners to shape their learning according to their imagination and aspirations, leading to a more inclusive and personalised educational experience. Our priority is to make our products easier to use so that educators can focus on their craft and adapt Moodle to their unique vision.
What's on the roadmap:
  • Optimise current interfaces
  • Launch new course experiences
  • Diversify content creation

Facilitating collaboration

We're committed to creating supportive and connected learning environments. To achieve this, we'll keep enhancing Moodle's ability to integrate seamlessly with other tools, leveraging common standards.
What's on the roadmap:
  • Support plugin development
  • Leverage standards
  • Balance open source

Optimising outcomes

Providing our users with tools that optimise their efforts is paramount. We aim to create a toolset that not only reduces the time and cost of managing and creating courses, but also helps learners overcome challenges more effectively.
What's on the roadmap:
  • Provide advanced analytics
  • Build a leaner platform
  • Create new tools for learners

Building

How we’ll get there

Building innovative solutions together

Our product development is driven by user needs, guided by strategic themes, carried out with planning and focus, and delivered with openness and accountability.

Phase 1:
Identify the problems we should solve

We gather insights from user feedback, our product advisory groups, and industry trends to understand the challenges and unmet needs of our users. This phase ensures we're addressing real-world problems, keeping up with accessibility and compliance requirements, and delivering value to our customers.

Phase 2:
Find vision-driven solutions

We link the identified problems to our overarching development themes, which guide our solutions and help us align them with our long-term vision and strategic goals. This approach ensures we're building Moodle in a cohesive and purposeful way.

Phase 3:
Plan and do the work

We break down our development process into 12-week increments, made up of 3-week sprints. This allows us to prioritise tasks, adjust capacities, and track progress effectively. And it keeps us focused on delivering value in a timely manner.

Phase 4:
Deliver and share

Our commitment to transparency extends beyond product releases and includes regular updates and insights into our development process through our Showcase shorts at the end of each sprint. These and our roadmap allow us to share what's coming down the pipeline and to gather feedback from our users and community.

Action

Watch our teams in action

After every 3-week sprint cycle, our Product teams hold a showcase session to share their achievements. Our Showcase shorts feature snippets of these sessions, so you can stay connected to the work we're doing at Moodle HQ in almost real time.
