Opportunity to list paid plugins on Moodle Marketplace

by Marion Bret - Rāpare, 26 Huitanguru 2026, 8:46 PM

At Moodle, we believe open education technology is key to creating a more equitable world, and as the world’s most trusted open-source learning platform, we’re powered by a global community of educators, developers, and partners who help make learning more accessible and impactful. To further this mission, we’re excited to announce the upcoming Moodle Marketplace launching mid 2026, which will replace the current Plugins Directory as the official platform for discovering and accessing free and paid solutions that integrate seamlessly with Moodle.

All free plugins from the current directory will be featured in Moodle Marketplace, and developers can now also list paid plugins. By supporting paid plugins, we aim to foster a more sustainable plugin ecosystem, giving developers the resources to maintain, improve, and support their work over the long term. This helps ensure that the plugins our users rely on remain high quality, secure, and compatible with future updates, while also encouraging innovation and a wider range of solutions for the Moodle community.

How to submit your plugin:

The onboarding site is now officially open for developers -> Visit the page to learn more about the process and submit your paid plugins for review.

Why join Moodle Marketplace early:

  • Be part of the launch buzz – Early submissions go live when traffic and interest are at their peak.

  • Access a built-in audience – Thousands of organisations are already looking for high-quality, trusted plugins.

  • Boost credibility – Listing on Moodle’s official Marketplace demonstrates your plugin meets Moodle’s standards and quality checks.

  • Simplify sales – Integrated payments and invoicing make selling easy, secure, and scalable.

  • Help shape the experience – Early providers can give feedback and influence the Marketplace journey.

We can’t wait to see your solutions on Moodle Marketplace and welcome you to this exciting new chapter for the community!

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Coming to Our Moodle Community Site

by Sinthia Umme - Rātū, 24 Huitanguru 2026, 3:43 PM

Greetings Moodle Community!

We are pleased to announce that we will be implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) across our Moodle community sites as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and spam-free platform for our community.

Why We're Implementing This Change

Spam accounts and automated bots continue to be a growing challenge across the web, and our community sites are no exception. These accounts can disrupt discussions, flood forums with irrelevant content, and degrade the overall experience for legitimate members. By adding MFA as an additional layer of security, we believe we can significantly reduce the ability of bad actors to create and operate fraudulent accounts on our platforms.

A Quick Overview of MFA

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) requires users to verify their identity using two or more verification methods when logging in. Typically these verification methods are something you know, such as your password, and something you have, such as a one-time code sent to your email, phone or generated by an authenticator app. This makes it much harder for unauthorized users and bots to gain access.

Timing of the Change

On Tuesday February 24, 2026 at 0600 GMT Moodle will enable MFA across its community sites. Once enabled, you will be prompted to complete a quick verification step each time you log in. Upon login you will be prompted to enter a verification code that will be sent to the email address associated with the account you are using to access the site. The process is simple and takes only a few seconds.

Thank you for being a valued member of our Moodle community. This change is a direct investment in the quality and security of the spaces we share together.

Update from Moodle HQ: Focusing for the Future

by Marie Achour - Rāpare, 13 Whiringa-ā-rangi 2025, 9:09 PM

Hi Moodlers,

As we move further into Moodle’s financial year (aligned with the Australian financial calendar), we want to share an update on our progress to date and some important changes we’re making at Moodle HQ to ensure the long-term sustainability and success of Moodle.

This year has seen fantastic progress. We’ve invested in new talent and aligned our teams globally, begun development of our new Design System, implemented changes that will drive our Technical Transformation, released Moodle LMS and Moodle Workplace versions 5.1, moved closer to launching our new Moodle Marketplace, established our Community Contributions team, and connected with many of you at our last MoodleMoot Global event!

It’s been a busy year — and on reflection, perhaps a bit too busy.

Moodle HQ remains a relatively small organisation, including around 100 people dedicated to designing, building, and maintaining the Moodle Products ecosystem. Our ultimate goal is the long-term sustainability of Moodle — we want it to thrive for the next 100 years, continuing to power limitless learning opportunities and support the educators who bring that learning to life.

Doing too many things at once doesn’t help us achieve that goal. So, we’ve made the decision to narrow our focus to ensure our energy and investment are channelled where they’ll make the greatest impact.

We’ll be concentrating on key areas of opportunity — investing where we can best support our community, customers, and learners around the world.

Much of what we’re working on will continue, including all the initiatives we’ve already progressed this year. However, there are also a few areas we’ll be stepping back from:

  • MoodleNet: We’ll cease HQ-driven development of MoodleNet. The platform code will remain available on GitHub and can be adopted, used, or enhanced by anyone interested in continuing that work. We encourage the community to self-organise and explore those opportunities. Access to moodle.net will be removed from public view on 24th April 2026, in line with the Moodle LMS 5.2 release date.

  • Fund Moodle: We’ll decommission the Fund Moodle site as our approach to community contributions evolves from financial transactions toward joint projects and collaborative initiatives. Access to fund.moodle.org will be removed from public view on 18 November 2025. More information about how you can engage with our Community Contributions team and continue to contribute to Moodle in various ways will be shared shortly, so please stay tuned.

  • New Product Development: Our immediate priority remains developing new capabilities in Moodle LMS and Moodle Workplace, while preparing for the launch of our new Moodle Marketplace. Other exciting initiatives, such as our Moodle for Higher Education product, will progress in time.

As part of these changes, we’re also saying goodbye to a few valued Moodle HQ team members — some of whom are familiar faces to many in our community. This is never easy, and we will miss their talent and contributions dearly.

Through all of this, our commitment to our mission — and to you, our community — remains unwavering. These adjustments are about ensuring Moodle continues to grow sustainably and with confidence in the years ahead.

Thank you for your ongoing trust, contributions, and belief in Moodle’s vision. Together, we’ll keep building a stronger, more connected learning ecosystem for educators and learners everywhere.

Take care,
Marie Achour
