John Allsopp found that he was denied insurance beacuse of his history of depression (despite lack of claims).  It can also be a problem in job applications (particularly when you get to the medical check).  Once i talked with a student who was pretty sure that a potential employer was going to know of his (controlled) condition once he completed the part that asked what drugs he took.
And all that is apart from the social stigma.
