What is Moodle?

Moodle is a Learning Management System (LMS) designed to provide educators, administrators and learners with a single robust, secure and integrated system to create personalised learning environments. It has WCAG 2.1 Level AA accreditation. You can obtain Moodle officially in three ways:

  1. Download the free open-source software onto your own web server if you are technically-minded;
  2. Purchase a low-cost MoodleCloud site, installed and managed directly by the people who make Moodle and particuarly tailored to individuals or small to medium organisations;
  3. Connect with one of our Moodle Certified Partners and Service Providerswho will advise you and configure Moodle to your exact specifications. They can also provide Moodle Workplace, an enterprise LMS combining the best of Moodle LMS with more advanced tools for workplace learning.

A free Moodle app is available for Android and iOS, with the possiblity of purchasing your own branded Moodle app.

Moodle is developed and maintained by Moodle Pty Ltd, familiarly known as Moodle HQ. The open-source software, originally created over 20 years ago by Founder Martin Dougiamas is supported financially by a network of over 104 Moodle Partnerships worldwide and an increasing number of valued Certified Integrations. Clients purchasing a MoodleCloud site, along with voluntary donations, also help maintain Moodle's commitment to open-source learning and futher advance the mission to Empower educators to improve our world.

Moodle’s multilingual capabilities ensure there are no linguistic limitations to learning online. The Moodle community of translatorshas translated Moodle into more than 120 languages (and counting) so users can easily localise their Moodle site, along with plenty of resources, support and community discussions available in various languages.
