Hi Joost. Thanks for sharing this plugin with the community.
You may wish to modify the description of the plugin and provide a link to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Case_Law_Identifier so that the context is clear.
I was able to test the functionality of the link generation.
I noticed a space for potential improvement of the code and reported it for you at https://github.com/joostvanderborg/moodle-filter_ecli/issues/1
