If I had to do it again, I would probably try to use outcomes, https://docs.moodle.org/404/en/Outcomes instead of building Competencies and Learning plans.
That could be friendly for csv files and creating reports to metrics or whatever.

Would also need at the course level - what action to take - "Upon course completion" = Complete the competency or something else?
And
At the course module ID (course Activity) what action to take- "Upon activity completion = Complete the competency or something else?
Building a bulk upload or CSV file would still be very manual, as the competency ID is not as easy to find, likewise the course Module ID. Would have to have a handy, SQL query with the required IDs to help build the CSV file.
I stop hoping for Competency/Learning plan related improvements, as most trackers with closed with "will not do."

Hi Shirley,
I agree. At the moment it really is a very manual process.
Hopefully, in the future, Moodle will offer some kind of bulk upload option for assigning competencies.
I'm thinking about a CSV containing the competency key along with the course ID, course shortname, or the course module ID.
That would be great!

Even if there was a way to automate creating the relationship between a competency and a course, you are still stuck with adding the relationship between the competency and a course activity. It is a very manual process.

sorry for the late reply. I had actually seen the notification but wasn’t able to respond earlier.

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, the workaround you described doesn’t really fit my situation: each course has different competencies associated with it, so I can’t reuse a single backup/restore configuration.

Still, I appreciate the idea and the time you took to share it!

For Moodle version 5.0, you can try the qbank_yetkinlik plugin, which adds a proficiency column to the question bank, and the local_yetkinlik plugin for reporting.

I am not aware of any method except to open each course, open the competencies tab and manually select you competencies one at a time. I do hide all competency frameworks except the one I am working on, if you are able to do that. You could try to add them to one course, then back it up and restore before you add other content. I have not tried using that method, but it could be faster if it works.

Can I import a .csv file to bulk set competencies to my courses?
Recently, we have introduced a competency framework, and we have more than 200 courses.
Is there a better way to assign competencies to all those courses instead of doing it manually, course by course?

Instead of linking one competency to many activities, link a competency that states: student achieved activities: 1,2, 3, etc. and link that competency to a single activity.
If the various activities are in a single course, use activity restriction within the course so that the student has to complete all activities before advancing to the quiz. Only grant the competency on the successful completions of the quiz activity.
If the activities are on various courses, this will be more complex.
