Moodle Scheduler - late bookings enabled but slots disappear

由“Mike Faulkner”.

Hi, we are using Moodle with schedulers at our university to manage bookings for meetings and resources. I am using a scheduler to manage bookings for a resource and have "Accept late bookings" enabled, which according to the text in the help pop-up should allow students to book a slot right up to its end time. However, empty slots in the scheduler disappear as soon as their start time hits, preventing students from booking a slot after its start time. I've checked all settings in this scheduler but can't see any conflicting options.

Am I missing something?

Group-Based Slot Booking Limit in mod_scheduler

由“LLT Moodleadmin”.

Description:

I would like to propose an enhancement to the mod_scheduler plugin that introduces a dedicated group-based booking mode for appointment slots. A similar issue hast been already proposed here: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=453110

Currently, the capacity of a slot is defined solely by the number of participants, which works well for individual bookings. However, this approach creates limitations when working with predefined groups of varying sizes.

Use Case:

In many teaching scenarios, participants are organized into groups (e.g., project teams), and scheduling should occur at the group level rather than the individual level. For example, consider three groups with 5, 3, and 2 members respectively. If a tutor wants to allow only one group per time slot, the current system requires setting the slot capacity to accommodate the largest group (e.g., 5 participants).

This leads to unintended behavior:
Smaller groups (e.g., groups of 2 and 3) can book the same slot together, since their combined size does not exceed the participant limit. This contradicts the intended constraint of one group per slot.

Proposed Enhancement:

Introduce a configurable “Group Mode” for slots with the following capabilities:

- Allow tutors to define the maximum number of groups per slot (e.g., 1 group only)
- Ensure that bookings are evaluated based on group membership, not just participant count
- Prevent multiple groups from booking the same slot, regardless of their combined size
- Optionally maintain compatibility with existing participant-based limits for mixed use cases

Benefits:

- Better alignment with real-world teaching scenarios involving group work
- Improved control over scheduling fairness and structure
- Avoids workarounds or manual enforcement by tutors

This feature would significantly enhance the flexibility and usability of the scheduler, especially in courses where group-based activities are central.

Thank you for considering this request.

Scheduler synchronisation

由“Matthew Davidson”.

Hi all,

Within our institution one of our lecturers has raised an issue that schedulers do not synchronise between different module/course pages.

Normally we would resolve this issue by having an overarching page for the department, and having a scheduler placed there, rather than on individual course/module pages. However, due to a number of internal factors, this is not feasible at the moment in this particular circumstance.

The lecturer has requested this is raised with Moodle centrally, and I agree that ideally the scheduler would have the option of synchronising with other schedulers for the same user that are placed on other pages.

However I note on Hillel Eberlin's post of August 13, 2023, Henning Bostelmann's response regarding Moodle's core architecture.

Would such a change to scheduler require in reality a totally new feature to be created, rather than an edit of the current scheduler?

Many thanks,

Matt

Schedule updates for moodle 5.1

由“Acqua Alta”.

Hi Wendy,
I started using the "Organizer" plugin instead, and so far, so good.

https://moodle.org/plugins/mod_organizer

It even has some features that "Scheduler" doesn't. For example, "Scheduler" handles group scheduling as a collective of individuals scheduling, while "Organizer" can handle them as an actual group.

BTW, "Scheduler" is a great plugin also, and we love it. It's just that it doesn't get updates anymore.

由“Wendy Harper”.

Will schedule be updated to work in Moodle 5? If not, does anyone have a different plug in suggestion for students to book appointments?

Thank you,
