I hope this message finds you well. I would like to inquire about the Quickmail block administrator settings that need to be configured to enable bulk student messaging services.

Is there a way to set the default course overview "layout"

I'm using Moodle 5.0.6 and Boost. I know I can set what course overview layouts are available to users (card, list or summary) but isn't there some way to set one as the default? It seems like card is the default but if people are not careful how they create their course images the card view starts looking awful.

Is anyone else having issues with Edwiser Rapid Grader in 5.1+ Most ogf the functionality seems to be broken /Bugging out and even marking widow display is flexing unevenly. Using latest version unistalled and fresh install Thanks in advance

1 Graded Users tab shows nothing

2 Persistent alert red and green show nothing

3 Grade /regrade widow not flexing correctly

Constantly need to refresh whole page to reset what function are working (ie if I try Graded Users tab the RG grade button fails to display

Show a block on a course section, hide it on others

Hello everyone,

This is for a Moodle with version 4.5.8 using the Boost theme.

We've had someone asking if it was possible to show a block on a given section, say section 1 of a course, but have it be hidden on all others. This can be any block. We've tried the following with a native Moodle block (block_html) and a third party plugin (block_stash):

Use the Custom sections course format.
Add the block to a course and test the block settings with every value available for Display on page types (Any page, Any course page, Any type of course main page)
Set the block on Visible = No on a one section page of that course (URL indicates /course/section.php?id=X).

Unfortunately, once we set the block to not be visible on a specific section, it makes it so on all sections. It seems you can make a block visible on the course main page and hidden in its sections, and vice-versa, but not have it only show up in one specific section.

This behavior seems strange to me because you can set the block to be available on Any page, and then go and hide it in specific activities within that course. So it works well for activities, but not for course sections. Maybe I'm missing something with where the values are stored, in mdl_block_instances.

Has anyone had any luck setting up a block this way? We want to be able to this with Boost without injecting too much CSS or JavaScript code within the theme.

Quickmail (latest version) - Moodle 4.1

We do have the same issue. As far as I can tell, there is no "quickmail:view" capability. There is only the capability block_quickmail_allowstudents (can be set to "Yes", "No" or "Never") in the block settings in a course (and global). However, regardless of which option is selected here, the block will continue to be displayed for students - even if all quickmail permissions are set to “prohibit” (e.g. "quickmail:cansend").

Hello everyone,

Today for testing purpose, I installed Moodle 4.5.7+ (Build: 20251121) in my windows laptop and created a course 'Demo Course'. In that course I created the following:

Assignment:
Start date: 24 Nov 2025: 00,00
Due date: 5 Dec 2025; 10:00
Cut of date: Not set
Remind me to grade by: 8 Dec 2025; 00:00
Restrict access: None
Completion conditions-
Add requirements -> Make submission
Set reminder in Timeline: 24 Nov 2025; 09:46
Quiz:
Open the quiz: 24 Nov 2025; 09:52
Close the quiz: 25 Nov 2025; 10:00
Grade to pass: 3.00
Restrict access: None
Completion conditions-
Add requirements -> Receive a grade -> Passing grade
Set reminder in Timeline: 24 Nov 2025; 09:55

In the course completion settings, I choose Condition: Activity completion and selected both assignment and quiz.

When I checked the Dashboard, no items are displayed in the Timeline block for the user and admin. I tried 'All' in the filter, but nothing is displayed. I also tried running the Cron multiple times. Is this a bug or did I miss any configuration?

We were using the previous version of Boost Union, but have now upgraded to the latest release. After the update, the issue has been resolved. Appreciate your help!

I just answered in https://github.com/moodle-an-hochschulen/moodle-theme_boost_union/issues/1081 but cross-post it here as reference:

This problem with the upstream change was reported before on https://github.com/moodle-an-hochschulen/moodle-theme_boost_union/issues/1061 and was fixed in reasonable time in Boost Union v4.5-r25.

Did you update your Boost Union plugin to the latest version together with Moodle core? If yes, please re-open the issue on Github, tell me your Boost Union version and I will be happy to have another look if we forgot something.
