We are absolutely *loving* this theme. We've been testing it on a few new intake groups, and anecdotally at least we're seeing higher student engagement and less need for onboarding. It's clean and intuitive, and it has been much easier to integrate with our existing branding than other themes have been.

I really hope this will see continuing development, and I'd be eager to know what kind of help or support would be useful. I always feel sheepish providing feedback on something that was given freely as a gift, but in hopes that it's helpful I can list a few things we would miss from Fordson if we decide to switch over:

    - Our students and teachers both love the modal overlay window that Fordson uses for course settings. Any intention to bring it in to Rebel?
    - Course images don't appear to be used anywhere. In Fordson, we use different colors and textures as background images behind the main content boxes, and we find this gives learners a sense of where they are in the site as they switch between different courses. For Rebel, there seems to be a single background image for all courses. It'd be tremendously helpful to be able to assign this as a course setting.
    - Some features, like badges and the content bank, are turned off on our system, but the link still appears to students under the course header. It'd be nice if these appeared only when the feature was turned on on the site.

Just some initial thoughts! There's so much to like here. I hope the team responsible for moodle 4.0 is taking note. smile

    PETER G,
    - YES! Coming soon. You will be VERY happy with the new release about to drop.
    - YES! I have implemented a bunch of new features. Header image is one, but also a new drop down to pick from "textured transparent" backgrounds that get overlayed over the header area. It looks beautiful and you can pick from like 20 patterns. There is also branding in the footer, color choosers for main background areas, and a bunch of enhancements.
    - Working on it. I am adding in some checks to verify features are turned on or that the user has permission to view or manage the item.
    - login modal popup window from sidebar
    - Custom image for course tiles where no course image exists
    -

This new simple layout and design of Rebel is what we were trying to achieve with Fordson. This theme was created based on feedback we got over summer about improving the user experience by simplifying the interface.

    Peter G,
I should also point out that the next release is going to be a major step forward and some things are going to go away. The presets is one of those things. In order to better support this long term, I had to simplify some things. I've added a ton of styling options but eliminated the various presets and just used the main Rebel one. I will be adding in additional customization but only focusing on the main Rebel preset.
One other thing of note, the sidebar icons are now floating next to the page content and the page layout is full screen. Meaning, instead of the icon strip running the full length of the left side of the page, we put the icons floating to the left of the page content. This puts it closer to where the teacher and student is working. We feel this is better as it feels more natural and flows with the page putting the buttons users need right next to where they are engaged.

Chris, thank you for the amazing work you do. We offer open access courses to students in rural South Asia, . We love Moodle, but the student interface has always been a challenge to some of our audience. Everything you've described about the next Rebel release sounds fantastic, and I'm very excited to test it out.

    Chris,
Rebel looks fantastic and we tried it with a small group of our students. The reponse is very positive key points being its fluidity and erase of access from Ux prospective. Love your work. Keep up the good work 👍

    Namgyal Yolmo,
Thanks for the feedback. Future direction for this theme will be to further enhance the Student and Teacher Dashboards, continue to refine the styling, and probably user tiles for course category browsing. One feature I would like to have on the top of each course page is a search box just for that course so students can quickly find assignments and work.

Our ultimate goal is to keep this theme simple so students and teachers can better use the platform in an intuitive way.
