Question types: Poodll Recording

Maintained by Picture of Justin Hunt Justin Hunt
An audio/video recording question type for Moodle. It uses HTML5 audio and video recording on supported browsers, and falls back to flash and other technologies where required. It is also possible to "draw pictures" as responses to questions, using the Poodll whiteboard feature. It requires the Poodll filter be installed. Recording from mobile devices is also supported.

The Poodll recording question type allows students to record audio or video, or draw pictures, in response to a question in Moodle. Poodll's HTML5 audio and video recorders are designed for classroom use and come with "skins" that can be selected to provide the most reliable recording for your students and topic. These include the 123 recorder which is designed for simplicity and ease of use, and the Once audio recorder which is designed for use in tests where students should not have the option to playback or re-record.

Justin, I made a quiz with a single task: to record an extract of a text. I allowed unlimited number of attempts in the test settings. A student can make the recording repeatedly- I can see the conversion and uploading processes. Then the recording can be listened to by the student. But I didn't find the way for the teacher to listen to the student's recordings. Can you help?
One more thing. When I choose mp3 in the settings, the recorded file is uploaded to the site. Where does the sound file go, if I choose the web service, (don't remember it's name now)?

I tinkered about my issue and was a success. I had to install 2 more plugins: assignment_type and assignment_submission. I made an assignment, and it worked well. I think I understand about Red5 recorder to. l believe that it is a piece of programming code located at the Poodll server that makes recording and converting possible. But the recorded file is always uploaded to my site directory. Right now I'm puzzled with the question how to clean my site of those mp3 files when I'm done evaluating them. Maybe there is a simple solution to it, and I thus sound naive, but I'm totally new to Moodle _ it's my 4th day tackling it. Thank you for great plugins!

Thanks Stepan. The recordings are stored in Moodle's file system. Moodle has its own one of those. And the files and directories have names like '1123f08gyy12445pp.mp3.' So just forget about them. If you want to delete them, delete the assignment or the quiz attempt that contains them. You can also "reset" the course which will wipe the whole course clean of student data.

MP3 and Videos are being blocked by safe exam browser. Any suggestions.

Oh really? I have never tested with the safe exam browser.
The video and audio recorders by default use the red5 server. That is likely to be an issue. But the "MP3 recorder" works without any 3rd party server, so it is worth checking if that works. If file uploads are allowed, you could force html5 mode and then instead of a recorder, you would be able to upload a file from the PC. In the case of a tablet device that would also give you the option to record. In my opinion those are all still long shots and I do not think there will be much else you can do from user perspective. I would have to try it out and make some changes in all liklihood.

Currently I have uploaded the poodll to my platform. But he registers and does not store his registration, so I can not raise him to the platform
