The student can drag markers to indicate key features on an image.

There are working examples in eAssessment with Moodle on our OpenLearn site.

The documentation is in How to create questions in Moodle on that site.

This is a response to Phil's question. I do think it is confusing that users can click on the text label, though I understand why it would have sounded helpful. As Pascale said, it's so intuitive to target with what you're dragging, even after you've been told that only the circle works. We've disabled this question type because of this confusion. If it was possible to change this, I personally think it would be very helpful.

Is it possible to use this plugin using just a keyboard (no mouse)?

Yes it is possible to tab to a marker and then drive the marker with the arrow keys.

    Great question type but the
tags etc seem to get stripped out. They display fine in preview but disappear when saved. Perhaps I'm missing something.

Hmm. Thanks for checking. There must be something in my set-up stripping out the tags when Save Changes is clicked....

I have discovered an issue with this plugin. I am creating some resources to teach decimals, and have created activities where I want to have 10 markers (1 for each digit) which the students have to drag into correct position of a number grid. The question type doesn't seem to like having a marker "0" - the other numbers are fine, but not the 0 (which is quite important for what I am wanting). Has anyone else experienced this?

I can reproduce this bug. Well done for finding it. I have reported it as MDL-53964.

I have just created a quiz using this question type, and then tested it on an iphone, where it doesn't allow the markers to be dragged. I was under the impression that this had been a problem in the past, but had been fixed - or have I imagined this. Is there a way that this question type can be used so that it works on iphone and similar devices?

    Thanks in advance.

Note, this question type is now in Moodle core. Can you test the latest version at

I was under the impression that it works fine on iOS, and I am pretty sure I would have users complaining at me if it was not working at the OU.

Thanks for response Tim, yes the test question on Moodle Core, allows me to drag the items - although you cannot complete the quiz, as there is too much space between the items and the image, and I cannot drag and scroll at the same time on my phone. If I turn phone to portrait, the parts of the image that are off the right hand side, can then not be reached. Looking at the Moodle that I am working on, it tells me the plugin is up to date - I cannot see any difference in the way that you have created your question, and I have created mine - could there be another setting in my moodle that is stopping this from working?

Looking throug the history of what changed since these were added to Moodle core, there is not much related to mobile devices. The only one I can see on mentions Andriod, not iOS.

Thanks Tim, I exported my quiz and installed it onto a different moodle, where the quiz did work on the iphone - so my issue must be related to my particular installation of moodle anway - and I will have fun trying to work out where and why...
