Media collection is an activity that enables users to create galleries (of image/audio/video). The galleries themselves have many display options the user can choose such as displaying in a grid or carousel, and defining the number of items to show per row/column and such.

Each item can have metadata supplied (title, publisher, medium, production date, etc).

When viewing a gallery, selecting an item brings up a lightbox interface that allows the user to view a larger version of the item along with the metadata. Social options are also visible in the lightbox interface (liking & commenting).

This plugin is part of set Media gallery.

Hello, I have a question: can I grade this activity? I can´t find the configuration to do so.

Alba: there is an assign submission plugin that lets you grade galleries via the assignment activity (

Great plugin! But a core admin setting for accepted file types would be wonderful, since we (as many other users) already have a dedicated and integrated system for sound and video and don't want to confuse things.

Hi, I love this plugin but when I create a video gallery, no thumbnail images are shown which is a bit of a visual disappointment. Is there a reason for this?

This works very well, but when copying a course all the students submissions follow into the new course, unlike with other moodle activities. This is a problem, any solutions?

Hi, I really like this plugin. Does anybody know if it works with 3.7?

Hello, We have Moodle 3.6 and the videos are not displayed. We have tested mp4, avi and other mpeg.
Anyone with the same problem? Last year with Moodle 3.4 it worked perfectly.

Hello, We have a problem with the plugin. The videos are not displayed. We have Moodle 3.6.5+ (Build: 20190712) and Media Collection Release
Same server with Moodle 3.4 and Media collection Release works perfectly.

Hi Ricardo D, I've just pushed up a new version you can use, "" that includes the fix I did for 3.7 for the same issue.

I see a warning for the use of the class coursecat that is deprecated but I have it tested in my installation and it works correctly.
    Thank you very much smile

I just installed this on 3.7 and I'm not seeing the ability for anyone to add Timeline Comments to a video. General comments work fine when enabled but the Media Display Interface shown on the UNSW website doesn't look anything like my environment.

What might be missing to cause this?

    Hi Jon,
Unfortunately the features you describe from their website are part of a bespoke solution they have - they have an entire media platform separate to Moodle that the plugin is customised to integrate with for them - the timeline comments functionality comes from that separate service.

    Hi There
a colleague is getting an error message when trying to set up a new gallery " Too many galleries, please delete or change collection type ", there is currently only one gallery on the specific moodle page - the upload limit is set to 600mb. This is a 3D design course so lots of galleries will need creating. I'm struggling to see a problem with the set up of the gallery - anyone have any clues?

    Hi Chris Baldwin,

It depends on which mode the collection is in, and if a limit on the number of galleries allowed has been set.

That particular error message shows up when the collection is set to "Single" mode - which is intended for just one gallery in the collection total.
