Webmail-like messaging
Moodle 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7

This plugin allows users to send messages to each other, using an interface and features similar to webmail clients. Messages are tied to courses, users can only contact other participants in courses they are enrolled. Reading/sending of messages is done through a new item in the navigation block called "My Mail".

    Hello friends.

Is there a version for Moodle 3.0?

    Hi Vladimir,

Sorry, but it's not possible to do what you're asking.

You're not the first person asking that students can only contact with teachers. It's a functionality I hope will be available in next release.

    Hi Miguel,

Let me a few days to test it.

As far as I know, Moodle 3.0 it's not much different than Moodle 2.9, therefore I'm 99% sure 1.7.2 version will work with Moodle 3.0.

    Hi Miguel,

I've been testing Mail 1.7.2 in Moodle 3.0 and it's fully functional, there are a couple of deprecated functions that I've had to change.

This week I'll release a couple of new Mail versions, there will be one for Moodle 2.8 and other for Moodle 2.9/3.0.

    Great job, Marc

I've been installing the version 1.8 in two Moodles 3.0 and everything runs so well.

One more question, please: Is there any way/trick to use this plugin being Admin or Manager?

    Thanks again.

    Hi Miguel,

What do you mean by being Admin or Manager?

If you want to access other people mails, you'll need to use 'login as' functionality.

If you want to send/receive mails from other people being Admin, it's not possible, all mails are tied to courses, therefore you need to be enrolled first. Maybe it's a feature to be add for next release.

Excellent addition to Moodle! Does this plugin have any actions show up in Logs? We are looking for something that will show when mail sent was viewed by a student.

    Hello Marc,

My interest it's just for the second possibility: the capability for the administrative staff (not teachers/not students) to contact with groups of enrolled users at any course by this way.

    Thanks and greetings.

    Hi Randy,

No, Mail does not have any logs.

I've been thinking adding logs to Mail but some actions are not as easy to log as others, for example, as you said log when a student view a mail would be interesting but there's a problem. Mail allows users to mark all messages as read when someone send them a mail, because notifications contains full message.

There are other problems like when users view a mail with references, then we have to log every mail as read or only the first mail on screen?

I hope logs will be available in Mail sooner than later.

I need to configure the plugin that you can only send mail between users in the same role for example Student - Student
    Is this possible?

    Best Regards. Miguel Angel

    Hi Miguel Angel,

Currently is not possible, you can only avoid a role to send mail between users in the same role.

New feature to be add in next release.

    Thanks for your feedback,
