Select Moodle version:

Grade reports: LAE Grader Report

Alternative to Grader report that scrolls vertically and horizontally without losing student columns or grade item header rows. Lot of additional enhancements.

for Moodle
2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6

This plugin is part of set LAE Grade Reports. Plugins from the set work the best when installed together.

NOTE: LAE stands for Liberal Arts Edition, a repackaged version of Moodle provided by CLAMP (Collaborative Liberal Arts Moodle Project). The LAE User and LAE Grader are packaged with the LAE version of Moodle but can be installed separately with the dependencies as noted below.

Layout Differences From Grader Report

LAE Grader report in non-editing mode
  • Grade item and category headers are all on one line, not nested. LAEgrader does not collapse or expand categories.
  • LAEgrader allows wrapping of grade item and grade category names (at approximately 30 characters) to avoid excessively wide reports
  • Category items always follow the items contained in the category
  • All items (including the category column) included in a category are color-coded the same to group them together, alternately orange/blue
  • The last column is always the Course Total.
  • Items not contained in a category have a background of white as does the Course Total.
  • Hidden items and categories are gray.
  • Grades scroll both horizontally and vertically without losing view of the students column or the grade item header rows. This is the biggest difference between the LAE and core gradebooks. It negates the need for mouseover descriptions of which student and which item on which you're currently working.
  • Rows added such as 'range' or 'average' are placed at the top (instead of the bottom) and are frozen along with the grade item titles row so the user never loses sight of them.

    Hi Bob,
just wanted to say imo even if JQuery isn't core's choice, a tracker issue could be created for the dev team to look into porting/integrating it to core and YUI. The issue would have to convince for the effort (pros/cons).

Hello Bob and Daniel, I have tried Laegrader on Moodle 2.6 and it works for me. I have tested it on a clean site. @ Bob, even grade to pass works ;).

Please fix "version.php" which contains a SVN/GIT update entry. This breaks "admin/index.php" as well as the CLI-based "cron.php" and "upgrade.php" - alas, without any notice.
    The lines "<<<<<<< HEAD
$plugin->version = 2014021500; // The current plugin version (Date: YYYYMMDDXX)
$plugin->version = 2014021600; // The current plugin version (Date: YYYYMMDDXX)
    >>>>>>> master2" should contain only one entry!

This has been corrected, thanks for pointing it out. What is your organization? Do you have a lang pack you'd like to share?

Overall, LAE is a vast improvement over the core grader report, but since installing it I'm having a weird issue that the core report no longer calculates the total for the course correctly. All of the individual assignment scores show up with the right values, but the overall grade is not updating.

Hi Rob, appreciate your remarks. I assure you LAE Grader makes absolutely no changes to values in the tables. All calcs are on the fly. Can you post a screencap of your grader report course total area?
