Edwiser Course Formats plugin comes with two different layouts for your courses.


The List Format is one of the simplest course formats you can come across. Using this format, you can list your course sections & activities in the form of lists. This format is minimalistic in design, with an option to collapse/expand course sections. The collapsible nature of List format completely removes any scope of endless scrolling across courses.


Card Format is another standout course format in the offering. Edwiser Card Format displays your course sections & activities neatly stacked as cards on your course page. This format is pleasing to the eye and also highly functional.


Edwiser Course Formats plugin comes packed with the following features

    Hi @stefan,

    Thank you for using Edwiser Course Formats plugin, glad to know that you liked it.

    The course-wise progress bar is available in the list layout and Section-wise, as well as course-wise progress bar, is available in the card layout of the Edwiser Course Format.
    To enable the progress bar you need to mark completion tracking to Yes in the Edit Course Settings and you need to add
    Activity completion condition so that it gets calculated when a student completes the activity.

    Hi @Edwiser Team,


    In the top content of the course i cant add all text or images. When i save it leaves a lot of empty space with the option (show more).
    How can i solve this, so that it looks better?

    Hi @José,

    You can add the following code snippet in the CSS section of your theme settings to disable "+ Show full summary" and "Show less" from the general section in Edwiser Card layout

    body#page-course-view-remuiformat .read-more-trigger {
    display: none !important;
    }
    body#page-course-view-remuiformat .read-more-target {
    height: auto !important;
    }

    Hi @José,

    In Boost theme, to add the custom CSS navigate to Site administration > Appearance > Themes > Boost > Advance settings > Raw intial CSS

    Thank you, for sharing your experience with us. We are glad you enjoy our plugin!

    We have provided a setting to choose the default section view in the list layout. You can navigate to Edit course settings > Course format > Course layout and select "show all sections on one page" and then choose Choose Default Sections View as "Expand all". This will set all the section in Expanded view.

    As of now, we do not have a setting available to achieve your requirement,however, we will try to implement the setting in our upcoming update if feasible.

    Hello,
    I really like the course format. I am having issues in edit mode. I have the same issue reported above in regards to compatibility with the Adaptable theme. The "Add an activity or resource" option does not appear. When the mouse is hovered around where the "Add an activity or resource" option is suppose to be the link is clearly there and it opens the activity windows. The other issue is the that section heading text changes color to be the same as the background color and the "Add Section" button doesn't match the button color scheme either. It's black instead of white.

    I have made adjustments to color for various buttons on the site, but none impact the above mentioned issues.

    The Adaptable Theme is one of the most popular themes on Moodle. Any progress being made with compatibility?

    To fix "Add an activity or resource option does not appear" issue please add the following CSS code in the Custom CSS section of the Adaptable settings:

    body#page-course-view-remuiformat .section-modchooser .section-modchooser-link *, body#page-course-view-remuiformat .section-modchooser .section-modchooser-link a:hover
    {
    color:black;
    }

    About the second issue, we are unable to replicate the same on our end. Please do share further details here: edwiser@wisdmlabs.com so that we can debug it further.

    Great plugin, very well for the eyes!

    4 little wishes/requests/hints (better here or on github?):

    list format:
    - is it possible to get a collapse all/expand all in the first section (as it is in Plugin https://moodle.org/plugins/format_collapsibletopics)?
    - the mentioned plugin also remembers the settings for expanded/collapsed per user, so when you come back to the site it is all ready, no ticking for collapse or expand section by section - also possible?

    card format:
    - the sections in card format looks great! esp. the summary in the upper right corner
    - by opening one section I would prefer to have an option to select wether section shows in card format or list (I would prefer list for most sections)

    general: by changing my role from manager/trainer to "user" - I can't manually tick the activities as possible in standard theme.

    Hi, I'd just like to add an experience we've had when upgrading a site from Moodle 3.8.5 to 3.9.4. I was not aware that the site was using this plugin, and it did not report itself as missing after the upgrade. As a result we were chasing our tails for a while trying to work out why the appearance of the course was broken - courses were defaulting to "single activity" format, and had "forum" as the activity type. When I changed them back to topics, all the activities reappeared, but were bunched up in the first topic with all topic availability conditions lost.

    We figured out that this course format was missing eventually via full debug messages, but simply restoring the plugin did not fix everything - it only fixed the layout/css. The course activities were still bunched up in topic 1 and the availability conditions for the topics were still missing.

    It appears that this plugin is *required* to be present when an upgrade is performed, otherwise permanent issues are caused with the course configurations, but furthermore that the plugin does not report itself as missing if its files are in fact not on the disk. I don't know if this is an issue with how this particular plugin registers itself, if it is something to do with this particular setup where this format is configured to be the default, or whether it's just an issue with course format plugins in general as we don't use other course formats often.

    However, I think it's probably important to flag that when updating moodle, this plugin needs to be present in the moodle/course/format directory, otherwise courses using it will break.

    Hey you guys.
    I enjoy your plugin a lot. Our boss wanted us to create a fresh and modern Moodle appearance. There we go, your plugin sorted everything out.
    I would however change one little thing though. At the moment the first section of each course appears with a dark blue background. When adding a course picture, the colors of the picture darkened though the background. Is there any chance to adapt the background?

    Congratulations for your work. I really like the aparience of my courses now. I would like to ask if it is possible to not show in the card the number of activities and resources it has each card. I would prefer not to show any description, with just the title is enough for me.

    To hide all the activity summary and restriction details from the card please add the following custom CSS in the CSS section of your theme settings:

    body#page-course-view-remuiformat .remui-format-card.all-section-format .section .section-activities-summary .item,.pagelayout-course .availabilityinfo.isfullinfo{
    display:none;
    }
