How to use one block for all courses?

In order to gather experience points from all the courses a student is participating in, you have to set the admin setting Where are experience points used? to 'For the whole site'. This setting is located under "Site administration > Plugins > Blocks > Level up! > General settings". Once set, any block newly or previously added will display the total experience points of your students.

How are experience points calculated?

Please refer to the Level up! documentation.

Shortcodes supported

What are those? Shortcodes can be used in text editors throughout Moodle to include or modify the content. The plugin Shortcodes must be installed to enable them.

Level up! comes with shortcodes to display the learner's level badge, their progress bar, or even the leaderboard anywhere you like. Shortcodes can also be used to conditionally display content according to a learner's current level. For a list of available shortcodes and their documentation, please refer to Level up! documentation.

Thanks Frederic. Any idea why there wouldn't be an option to use Level Up! restrictions in course/lesson options? Moodle version is 3.8.3+ I only see the standard options like "User must be in a cohort" or "User must complete that element"

Hi Glenn, would you please confirm that you installed and enabled the "Level up! Availability" (availability_xp) plugin?

Oh yeah I don't have it. I didn't know I need it. I'll install it asap and say if that fixes the issue, thanks

    Hi, Frédéric!
I have a small problem with this plugin. Can't see any way to display the level up block in the mobile app on my moodle 3.7. Block located at the dashboard page. I'm sure that it worked well in previous versions, but now it's just not displaying any information about level, or xp, or anything. Can you please tell me how to fix it?

Hi Алексей, we only added support for the mobile app via the Level up! Plus add-on, we haven't removed any mobile support from any version since it was introduced. We suspect that the issues you are experiencing are due to a change between the Moodle versions you migrated from and to.

I get it. It works on the plus version of the plugin. Thanks for answering me. smile

Hi Frederic! I am facing the issue in level up that points for rule has been set to zero automatically after some time.
  • Fri, Aug 6, 2021, 9:19 AM
Hi Amit, Level up! never resets the rules, even when the block was added/remove. They only time this could happen is when someone manually resets them, or if a conflict occurs when multiple edit the rules at the same time. Would you please provide more information about the events that occurred? How many rules were there?

Hi Frederic, I have created only one rule for course view and Level up! is set on the site level. I have check the level up logs also there user got the point when he view the course after some time when again he view the course he will not get the point. I also checked the Moodle log no event is there for the same.

It probably is the cheat guard that is preventing the points attribution, please see if these pages help:

Hi Frederic, I have setup the level up and level up plus and I am using the Moodle version 3.6.5 but is unable to earn the point while viewing the course and rule is already set for the event course viewed. kindly guide me for any extra settings required for this.
  • Mon, Aug 9, 2021, 1:52 PM
Hi Amit, in your second message you mentioned that Moodle was not firing the "Course viewed" event. Without that event being fired, there is nothing that Level up! can do, you would need to investigate why Moodle does not report a course as being viewed in the first place. If the "Course view" event is fired, then please refer to the documentation linked above.

    Hi ...
we have LevelUp!-Plus Edition in use and an external Tool that should be used several times.

So I want to give points for a visit ob a special activity. I activated the control not to get points to often for the same action.

Here a picture of the rule I have created: https://cloud.schulcampus-rlp.de/edu-sharing/share?nodeId=be9ad2a8-8e41-4b6e-8bfe-3fba9650fb0b&token=9496599cff39e4a435a7cc13d85c5bd5
... sorry, it is in german.

BTW, do you have some more informations about how to use the rules?

    Regards from germany, Birgit

    Hi Birgit,

you confirm that there is a log that the students viewed the external resource at all? The rule seems to be properly configured, so perhaps the activity itself is not firing the event that it is being viewed. Or perhaps another rule (above this one) takes precedence.

It would be easier to discuss by email, would you please email us at: support at levelup dot plus

    Hi Frederic,
I found out, that only an event takes part for a trainer, but not for students.
At the moment I can solve the problem by using a link to the external tool and give points for using the link.

For teachers there are logs for using the link and visiting the external tool, for students only the link-event.
