Blocks: Exabis Competencies - Competence grids

Maintained by Picture of andreas riepl andreas riepl
The goal of this module is to work with competence grids within Moodle course-independently. Teachers and students can document their process in working with different competencies - students self-reflect and build up their competence-profile. Portfolio artefacts can be associated with competencies. The module was developed together with Kultusministerium Baden-Württemberg and Landesinstitut für Schulentwicklung.
Moodle 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5

The goal of this module is to bring competencies that have been provided (generate them at into Moodle-courses. Competencies from a students' sight can be expressed as "I can”-statements (example: "I can use spreadsheet formulas to solve a mathematical problem”).
These so-called descriptors (also referred to as outcomes or rubrics) document the acquisition of competencies (skills) in a certain subject. By this, educational standards can be transported across a whole school-type (Moodle-installation) giving teachers as well as students the opportunity to document their work with these competencies.

Teachers can add their own material to competencies documenting on which competence-fields they work with. Students can self-reflect, contribute by adding individual artefacts to competencies and build up their individual compentence-profile course-independently.

Also teachers can associate Moodle assignments with rubrics/outcomes.

The xml-file that contains the data that works with the block can be generated at:

The statements are in German and it appears they are from the xml file downloaded from site. Is there any way to have this file in english?

I have successfully re-imported competencies in the past, but recently I can't ever get them to re-import. The message always says, "There is no data available to import." I am putting the xml file generated at into the xml folder in the exacomp folder.

Hi, It would appear that not all plugins are 2.6 ready, for example the Exa Portfolio(s) and this one. When I upload These plugins into the mod Folder of 2.6, when Moodle Looks to install These modules it Comes up with modulename. Any idea when a fix will be ready?

I like the concept of this Block, only when I install it for 2.1, the block shows up, but only the first two menu items show up. I have nothing after "Subjects & Topics". What am I missing?

Is there an easy way to display student names filtered by groups; so that teachers from particular groups can see only their own students?

    Hi Andreas ,
This block is conflicting with Moodle theme . Some of the pages break such as home page, plugin overview etc. I have tested in Moodle clean theme. Your style.css may be not according to Moodle standard.

    Hello Andreas,
We are using exabis competencies block in our company LMS and so far it looks really good! I just encountered one problem and I wonder if you could help me. In settings of exacomp block I ticked option Automatical gain of competence through quizzes and I also set Quiz-percentage needed to gain competence to 75%, however, when employee finishes quizz, even thoug his score was 100% the competence is not gained automatically. When I look as an administrator to Overview of competencies tab I can see pictogram (three red lines) that employee finished activity asigned to required competence, but I still have to put tick inside the box manually otherwise the competence is not gained. Could you please advice me where could be the problem? Is there anything else in moodle that I need to setup to get it working automatically?

    Many thanks,

    Michal Fic

Looks like an interesting plugin. Unfortunately I cannot make it work (version 3.01 with Moodle 2.9).
The step "subject selection" produces an error:
Debug info: ERROR: for SELECT DISTINCT, ORDER BY expressions must appear in select list
    LINE 5: ORDER BY s.sorting, s.title

    SELECT DISTINCT, s.title, s.source, s.sourceid
    FROM mdl_block_exacompschooltypes s
    JOIN mdl_block_exacompmdltype_mm m ON m.stid = AND m.courseid = $1
    ORDER BY s.sorting, s.title

    How can I fix this?

Thanks for any help & best regards,
