The Census Report block for Moodle 2 is used by an institution that needs to generate a report of student enrollment and completion status.
An example would be a college district that gets reimbursement from the state for all FTE students and needs to generate a report that reflects this.

    i think the following could be useful here:
    - issue tracker (perhaps its the github one?)
    - documentation (what is FTE?)

    - issue tracker - should this be a Moodle Tracker component? For now it is the github.
    - FTE is a "Full time equivalent" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full-time_equivalent)

    Documentation is a bit of an issue, but as we get it, we will provide it.

    I am trying the census report block, but when I tried to translate the English language strings in AMOS, they were not available for translation. According to David Mudrak (http://lang.moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=2485) : "Good news! Almost all contributed plugins published in Moodle plugins directory have been imported into AMOS and are ready to be translated. As a part of MDLSITE-1836, changes were made on both AMOS and Plugins sites so that these two are now integrated.

    From now on, whenever a maintainer publishes a new version of their contributed plugin, strings are automatically sent via a web service to the AMOS. This process respects the supported Moodle version setting so the strings appear at the correct Moodle branch in AMOS.

    This works for new plugins that will be uploaded into Plugins in the future, too. With the exception that the strings appear in AMOS only after when the plugin is approved as a part of its validation.

    This new mechanism works for all plugins that were uploaded into the Plugins directory and are written for Moodle 2.0 and higher. Contributed plugin maintainers are now encouraged to transfer all their current code to this new scheme:

    The plugin code itself should now contain just the English strings in the /lang/en folder.
    All other translations are to be maintained via AMOS and you as the plugin maintainer do not need to look after them any more! Translated strings for contributed plugins are part of the standard language packs generated by AMOS.
    If your plugin code currently contains some translation, you (as the plugin maintainer) should submit it as a contribution into AMOS prior to dropping it from your plugin's source code. AMOS stage page provides a form to upload strings from an existing PHP file. You are supposed to import all non-English string files you currently have shipped with your plugin (eg. /lang/cs/yourmodule.php) into the AMOS stage and then submit them language pack maintainers.

    We believe that this new procedure will make translation of contributed plugins much easier than it ever been - for both the plugin maintainer and translators, too.

    Should you have any questions regarding this new feature, do not hesitate to ask in AMOS support forum at this site.

    Thank you all for you great work on contributed plugins and their translations!"

    Would the contributors of this plugin be so kind as to address this issue, so that this promising plugin might be available in other languages besides English ?

    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Not sure what else we need to do? If I understand what you posted, the language strings should have been posted to AMOS automatically.

    Hi Mike,
    I do not know what needs to be done, I am only a translator.

    Maybe we should ask David Mudrak for help. There are a few other plugins (AJAX marking, userinfo and tutorship) whose English language strings are also not available for translation in AMOS, but they seem to have the strings properly placed within the lang/en folder of the plugin.

    Hi Mike,
    I got a reply from David Mudrak:

    "I looked at the plugins code and this is what caught my eyes:
    * https://github.com/remotelearner/moodle-block_censusreport/blob/MOODLE_23_STABLE/lang/en/block_censusreport.php#L54 - invalid concatenation of strings using the dot operator"

    I hope that info can point you in the right direction and help you solve the problem of English strings not being available for translation in AMOS.

    Hi German.
    So, is David saying that dot concatenation cannot be used in language files? Do you know if that is documented somewhere?

    I have installed the plugin with the DDBB Oracle an report me this error:

    Debug info: ORA-00905: missing keyword
    SELECT DISTINCT(u.id) AS userid, u.lastname, u.firstname, u.idnumber
    FROM m_grade_items gi
    INNER JOIN m_role_assignments ra
    INNER JOIN m_grade_grades_history ggh ON (ggh.itemid = gi.id AND ggh.userid = ra.userid)
    INNER JOIN m_user u ON u.id = ra.userid
    WHERE gi.courseid = :o_param1
    AND gi.itemtype = 'mod'
    AND ra.roleid = :o_param2
    AND ra.contextid = :o_param3
    AND ggh.timemodified >= :o_param4
    AND ggh.timemodified <= :o_param5
    ORDER BY ggh.timemodified ASC, u.lastname ASC, u.firstname ASC
    [array (
    'o_param1' => '21',
    'o_param2' => '5',
    'o_param3' => '14',
    'o_param4' => 1312149600,
    'o_param5' => 1353452400,

    I think that the error is in the line "INNER JOIN m_role_assignments ra". I haven´t sentence ON.

    Hi Mike,
    I noticed a tiny typo in the English language strings for the Census Report plugin:

    2.3 [showcourseiddesc,block_censusreport]
    Whether the course course id should be displayed by default

    It seems that the word "course" was typed twice.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    I would love the ability to run report for all courses at once.
