By default WIRIS works with an auto-italic mode with the MATH PALETTE.

That feature is not activated in the CHEMISTRY PALETTE. Hence you should be have to upright lower-case greek letters.
You can have a try in the demo

    Hi everyone,

Aplogise if this issue has been raised up.. i try to make sense of the above dicussion without success. I am very new to moodle and do not understand technical language too much. I am trying to create a maths course
in moodle and i wish to install this plugin. I had succefully installed WIRIS plugin filter and WIRIS plugin for Atto editor. However when i try to install WIRIS quizzes at first it prompts me to manually update the plugin type. And after i chose 'Question type' i am still unable install. I get this error prompt.

    Validating qtype_type ... Error
[Error] File version.php not found [null]
Installation aborted due to validation failure

@HAJA MARICAR We understand you are trying to install WIRIS quizzes using the "Install add-ons" feature from Moodle's user interface.
Unfortunately, that installation method is not currently possible for WIRIS quizzes.
You need to install WIRIS quizzes manually as described at

I cannot find the WIRIS button on the ATTO toolbar. The filter is enabled and WIRIS says it is installed correctly.

    @Matthew Wilson:
Please check if WIRIS is present at http:///admin/settings.php?section=editorsettingsatto under "Toolbar config".
You should see a line "math = wiris", if it is not present please add it.

I'm currently testing the WIRIS editor plugins. I can't seem to get the Wiris editor buttons to appear in Atto editor. Also, no buttons that are in place AFTER the WIRIS entry (on Toolbar config) are rendered on the toolbar either.

I see some JS errors in Chromes console (attached) which is referring to the only button (HTML) to be rendered AFTER the WIRIS button:!AkamgAQZKzFhgcQkVfiu0frmKIk6sg

If I remove WIRIS from toolbar config, everything else renders fine and the above JS error doesn't appear.

Filter is enabled correctly, MathJax is disabled and the editor and buttons appear correctly on TinyMCE editor.

    Anyone have any ideas??

Full location of the above referenced error

When select that error, the following line is highlighted within the above JS file:
    Line 400:"GET", urlChecker, false);

Thanks for your feedback and sorry for the inconvenience.

This issue would be fixed in our next release (available next week). You can downgrade to our 4.7.0 version or - if you want - install our development release (development branch in GitHub repositories).

    Best regards,

    Thanks for your quick reply!

I've just got it working actually. The following defaults weren't autofilled on installation in the filter settings page. I copied the default values into the corresponding boxes and it's working now!

    Service host
    filter_wiris | imageservicehost

    Service path
    filter_wiris | imageservicepath
    Default: /demo/editor/render

    Hi there,

I've installed this plugin as well as the filter: filter_wiris. All the install processes are no problems and I can see the toolbar button on my Atto editor. But when I'd like to use it (click on the toolbar: math equation and chemistry formula buttons) I got a javascript error:

    TypeError: e is undefined
    ReferenceError: WirisPlugin is not definedyui_combo.php:61:4669

And the popup is not shown up.

Please help! I will purchase the Mac desktop Mathtype editor version but I need to get this Moodle plugin working first. Thanks!

    Hi David,

Something weird is going on in your installation. Is your server able to connect to Any failed requests in the network tab of your browser's webdev tools? Please send the URL of your Moodle site to so we can investigate further.
