Kaltura's Video Package for Moodle 2.x makes it easy to add the robust capabilities of Kaltura's open
source online video platform to any Moodle site. The package was developed specifically for Moodle
and integrates with other features and modules, such as resources and activities, so that users can
upload and embed media easily.

The package adds the following features for all users:

* My Media: users’ personal media gallery, for uploading, viewing, managing, and sharing media

* Create screen recordings and use them in the Kaltura activities

* Integration as an external repository with the file picker accessible from the text editor: embed your media or media you have access to, anywhere you can author text

In addition, Teachers and Admins have the following features available:

* Video Resource activity: Easily add video content to your course as a specialized resource

* Video Presentation activity: Create a synchronized view of a Document and a Video

* Video Assignment activity: Allows students to submit videos as an assignment submission

* View engagement reports for videos used on your course

Version information:

Please take note of the version of Moodle you have and the version of the plug-in you are installing. The Download page states which version of Moodle the version of the plug-in is for.

Version information example: Kaltura release 3.0.96 (RL: 2.5.1.1)

3.0.96 is the version of the plug-in that Kaltura has release. It does not correspond to any Moodle version number and it should be referenced when contacting Kaltura support.

RL: 2.5.1.1 is our internal version. The first two points (2.5) correspond to the version of Moodle that it has been tested with (Moodle 2.5.x).

    @kevin,
    It would be best to contact Kaltura Customer Care as we may need more details or an online session with one of our engineers to help you with the installation.
    If you have a CSM in Kaltura you can also contact through your CSM.

    The problem I reported in 2014 still exists. I accidentally overwrote our fix and now I'm in trouble!

    In mod/kalviassign/locallib.php #272

    Function kalvidassign_get_graders gets potential graders with this function call:
    $potgraders = get_users_by_capability($context, 'mod/kalvidassign:gradesubmission', '', '', '', '', '', '', false, false);

    However this results in emails being sent to all of our category level role assignments. To follow the policy in core moodle, only users enrolled on the course should get emails and the call should be:
    $potgraders = get_enrolled_users($context, "mod/kalvidassign:gradesubmission", null, 'u.*', null, null, null, true);

    Hi Amanda,
    If you are using the 4.x version (KAF-based), please open an issue either in the repository (https://github.com/kaltura/moodle_plugin) or through customer care so this issue will be solved in our module and you would not have to rely on a local fix that might get overridden again.
    We will need more details on how to setup the scenario where additional irrelevant users get the email notification.

    Thanks,
    Gonen

    Since recently plugins need the KAF, these do not work well with Kaltura Community Edition.
    And, since the previous plugins use Flash to upload a media, we cannot upload the media from mobile devices.
    In order to upload and play the media from various web browsers and mobile devices, we have developed a plugin that does not use KAF, Flash and Java, based on the Kaltura Video Package v3.1.02.
    Currently, our plugin is used with the Moodle 2 and 3 in our university.
    The timing is yet to be determined, but we want to release our plugin in the future.

    @Tomoya, now this is probably the most interesting thing I have heard for a while. You have a non-KAF plugin you say? Very interested in seeing this.

    @Tomoya - Brilliant. I'm looking forward to testing this out. Kaltura CE is a superb platform and works so well with Moodle. Have you had any luck updating the video assignment?

    Thanks Daemon,
    I have a non-KAF plugin package for Kaltura CE.
    But, I made many changes to plugins, for example, non-Flash uploader to upload image/audio/movie files, view access log page of media resource, access control setting to kaltura contents, view embed code of each content in mymedia, and so on.
    And, some plugins have been renamed.

    Thanks Andrew,
    I have updated video assignment plugin, fixed a issue of course backup/restore, modified submission/grading status page, use new uploader for smart phones and tablet devices.
    So, there are some differences from original plugin.

    Is the plugin or use of Kaltura free?

    @Dr. Nellie Deutsch
    Depends what you're referring to.
    Kaltura has a CE package (server) that you can freely install and run, but it can only work with the old plugin version (3.1.x) or whatever built by the community (for example - when what @Tomoya Saito will be published).
    Kaltura SaaS has a free trial which you can use with the KAF-based plugin (v4.0.x) but the trial is limited to 10GB usage after which you will need to purchase a license.

    @Tomoya - Would love to see your code for this! We're using community edition as well, and have done a few mods for the Moodle plugins, but it sounds like you have taken them further. Any chance you could share the code or put it on github so we can collaborate?

    With the Moodle plugin, under the 'Add New' menu is it possible to have a YouTube option or is this only available in MediaSpace and the Blackboard integration? If this feature is not available with the Moodle plugin, is it on the current roadmap? Thanks

    In your KAF Admin you can enable the "youtube" module and you will have this capability just like in MediaSpace and Blackboard.

    @gonen Awesome, thanks for the quick response!

    @Trevor,
    Our university holds the copyright of our plugin.
    So that, it may be difficult to collaborate about the plugin.
    But, I will share the code of plugin, or put it on github as soon as possible.
