The associated profile field is the answer to your need. You can define an associated profile field and "associate" it with a core profile field.

Default installation instructions for plugins of the type User profile fields

  1. Make sure you have all the required versions.
  2. Download and unpack the module.
  3. Place the folder (eg "myfield") in the "user/profile/field" subdirectory.
  4. Visit http://yoursite.com/admin to finish the installation
