StudentQuiz enables students to collaboratively create their own question pools in Moodle. Students can filter these questions into quizzes, and they can rate and comment questions while working through the quizzes. StudentQuiz computes each students contribution and learning progress and compares this with the community. The created questions become part of the Moodle question bank and can be reused in other Moodle quizzes. The video "StudentQuiz in a minute" tube.switch.ch/videos/d0e37788 provides a quick introduction.

Students like quizzes to prepare for exams. However, it’s hard to create all the questions needed for assessments and exams. That’s where the Moodle plugin StudentQuiz comes in. StudentQuiz enables students to collaboratively create their own question pools within Moodle. This allows a better learning experience because knowledge is actively constructed by the learner, not just passively received from the environment. And even if an individual student contributes a few questions only, a larger cohort can easily build up an extensive question pool.

In StudentQuiz, learners can create individualised quizzes. They also add their feedback to each questions by rating and commenting while working through the quizzes. Students can see their personal learning progress, and they can compare their contribution and competence with their peer group. Furthermore, the created questions become part of the Moodle question bank and can be reused in standard Moodle quizzes.

The teacher can approve/disapprove questions, or hide or delete questions. The teacher can also configure:

  • whether students’ names are displayed or kept anonymous.
  • whether questions are published right away or have to be approved first.
  • the number of points assigned to questions contributed and answers given.
  • what user roles to exclude from participation.
  • what questions types are allowed to be added to the pool.
  • whether students are enforced to rate questions.
  • whether students are enforced to comment questions.

The video StudentQuiz in a minute provides a quick introduction. There's also the 16 mins  video Tutorial for Teachers.

Hi Hiroshi. No, changed state means the student has changed the question while it was already approved. He could've changed the question so the teacher might not approve anymore and thus to get question approved again, the teacher needs to approve that question again. It is to prevent that the question has the approved state without actually been revisited by the teacher.

Hi Matthias and Al and all future reporters of this DDL SQL exception during upgrade: Please follow the issue https://github.com/frankkoch/moodle-mod_studentquiz/issues/233. The circumstances are strange, I'm working on the fix. Once I have that, I'll make a new release

Hi Hiroshi, your interpretation of "changed" is right. Students cannot change approved or disapproved questions anymore. If the teacher wants the student to edit her question again, he can assign the "changed" state. You find it in the documentation https://docs.moodle.org/38/en/StudentQuiz_module#Evaluation_from_the_teacher

The installation error seems to have fixed, thank you but now when I installed I get a New Setting Page which, which I click save, won't go away and won't save.

Can students see the comments left by other students? Or can those comments only be viewed by trainers, and the original student?
Do trainers have control over the students comments? If a comment is inappropriate, can a trainer remove it?

    Hi Frank
Is it possible to add the questions which are already in the question bank...to a new student quiz.
I can only add them in the student quiz only if I duplicate the questions. Is there any other better way?

There is a setting to enter an email address to report inappropriate comments, is there any way to create a default email to fill that? Can I set Question publishing to default to "Require approval before publishing?"

    To Walter:

    > Can students see the comments left by other students?
Yes, but they cannot delete or edit comments

    >Or can those comments only be viewed by trainers, and the original student?
Trainers and authors of a comment can edit and delete within a configurable "Comment editing/deletion period"

    >Do trainers have control over the students comments? If a comment is inappropriate, can a trainer remove it?
    Yes. Yes.

    >There is a setting to enter an email address to report inappropriate comments, is there any way to create a default email to fill that?
    No

    >Can I set Question publishing to default to "Require approval before publishing?"
No, but StudentQuiz distinguishes a submission and an answering phase. You could configure them such that questions cannot be viewed or answered up to a certain date. So if you collect all the approvals before, you have control.

    To Anant

    >Is it possible to add the questions which are already in the question bank...to a new student quiz.
StudentQuiz provides export/import functionality to transfer questions from one StudentQuiz question pool to another.

    >I can only add them in the student quiz only if I duplicate the questions. Is there any other better way?
Yes, export/import doubles the questions. You cannot reference the same StudentQuiz question pool from 2 different StudentQuiz activities.

Not working properly with "Record audio" question type. there are no buttons showing for submint, ranking, comments, the same story on adaptable and boost themes. Is this a bug? I am on 3.9.1.

Great plugin! If possible, can "my difficult questions" be displayed on the user's personal homepage? I mean the user’s difficult questions in all courses. This will be very convenient for students to learn from difficult points.

If I backup a course, with the comments in the StudentQuiz also be backed up? If I then restore that course, will the comments be restored?

I am having trouble restoring a course. I am not certain, but I think it may have to do with this plugin. I am getting the following error when I try to restore:

"The backup file contains more than one top-level question categories for context 396. "
