Open forum are designed to increase engagement and provide a modern alternative to standard Moodle forums.

Open forum reduce complexity and work like the modern messaging systems students use every day on the web and their mobile devices.

Unlike standard forums advanced forums are responsive, so users can read and post from their mobile or tablet. Advanced forums have been specifically designed to improve the usability and accessibility of Moodle forums.

Posting and replying are all done via ajax to save page loads, take less clicks and increase engagement, while maintaining the user's context in a discussion thread.

Open forums contain a number of additional features including the ability to see who has engaged in a discussion before you open it, a setting to show recent forum posts on the course page, subscribing to individual threads, private replies and an option to allow anonymous posting, post bookmarking, along with all the features standard Moodle forums have.

Open forums are design by Blackboard in partnership with The University of Montana.

    Hello,

Is there a plan to update to 3.1?

    Cheers

@Stephen - we typically don't release new versions of the plugin until our corresponding release of the Moodlerooms platform, which generally occurs about 6+ months after the Core Moodle release. However, the "master" branch in the Github repository is passing all automated tests in Moodle 3.1, so you should try that version if you're looking to use Advanced Forums in a Moodle 3.1 build. You can access the Github repository by using the "Source control URL" link.

Hello, thank you for the information on the possibility of using Advanced Forums in a Moodle 3.1 build, and your reference to the Github repository. Could you explain it a bit further how I can access the Github repository? Should I look for the "Source control URL" link in my Moodle settings? Thank you!

    You can fix this?

    Hi All,
I have tested this with 3.2 and it does indeed work. I have not done extensive testing, but so far it appears to work exactly as it did in 3.1.

    HI Mathieu,
Did the search work in your test? There is a tracker item for this from January: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=345465&mode=1

Hello, does anyone have experience with this forum in Moodle 3.3?

I can answer my own question. We installed Advanced forum in Moodle 3.3 and it seems to work fine at a first look. No installation errors and a limited functionality test revealed no problems.

With Moodle 3.2, all 'Single Simple Discussion Forums' will no longer show 'author image or name' of the first post. It would be a blessing if this plugin could be updated to replicate this same feature.

@Anu Laitakari Hi Anu, my search and all functions appear to work fine.

However, I have just discovered a rather bizarre problem with the upgrade. Though everything appears to function properly, several posts from students have been truncated. Their posts are present in the upgrade, but for some strange reason they are much shorter than in my backup. I have only discovered this after being on the new system for two weeks, so I will need to copy the old posts to the new system or write some kind of script to do it! :S

    HI,

After installing the Advanced forum, I proceeded to try it out on the Moodle Mobile App where I was shown a message "UH OH, this plugin is not supported, view in browser"
Is this plugin supported by the Mobile App?
If it is supported, can anyone shed some light as to why I get this message?
