Open forum are designed to increase engagement and provide a modern alternative to standard Moodle forums.

Open forum reduce complexity and work like the modern messaging systems students use every day on the web and their mobile devices.

Unlike standard forums advanced forums are responsive, so users can read and post from their mobile or tablet. Advanced forums have been specifically designed to improve the usability and accessibility of Moodle forums.

Posting and replying are all done via ajax to save page loads, take less clicks and increase engagement, while maintaining the user's context in a discussion thread.

Open forums contain a number of additional features including the ability to see who has engaged in a discussion before you open it, a setting to show recent forum posts on the course page, subscribing to individual threads, private replies and an option to allow anonymous posting, post bookmarking, along with all the features standard Moodle forums have.

Open forums are design by Blackboard in partnership with The University of Montana.

I have a question or feature request. One of our departments recently switched from Open Forum to the regular forum activity. Part of the reason is that in the open forum, the subject line is small, italic, and dimmed. That subject line is critical to learners for understanding the context of the conversation. So, for them, the subject line is more important than the poster's picture. Is there a clever way to make the subject line display bigger and/or bolder? Cheers!

Do you have a beta version for version 3.6, before the official release?
Because we had to migrate to 3.6, but we had Open Forums in version 3.5 which are no longer accessible.

Hi Carl Thelen,

Thanks for your suggestion, we'll make sure our team knows about it. In the meantime, you could add custom CSS to your site and target that specific page.

Hello everyone,

I am currently using Moodle 3.6.3 (Build: 20190311) and open forum plugin version 3.5.2 (Build:2018080801). I have a forum where students can post questions about course material. In this forum, both the posts and replies are anonymous thanks to the anonymous posting option. I was wondering if there is a way for the teacher to see the students names instead of anonymous user or would I have to turn off anonymous posting to make this work?

@Mikey Helmick and other Moodle 3.6 users. I am looking at upgrading from Moodle 3.4 to 3.6 however I see that there isn't an official Moodle 3.6 release for Open Forum (mod_hsuforum).

If you're using hsu_forum and 3.6, have you run into any issues or open bugs that are causing issues with users?

Is Open Forums ready for 3.6 in production?

Hsuforum and the flashcard module caused havoc with us updating to Moodle 3.6 from 3.5 because of the eventslib.php file that Moodle no longer has. If you go directly to the git repository for this module https://github.com/blackboard-open-source/moodle-mod_hsuforum, and download it from there, it works fine. We had to remove the plugin folder for both of these modules first to get it working and not displaying the HTTP 500 error.

Hello, I am using Open Forum plugins in moodle 3.7.1 its working very well, I have a small requirement in this plugin, is there any collapsible option for parent post or reply. if yes then kindly guide us so that we can implement it.

Hi, I'm using Open Forum 3.6.3 in Moodle 3.6, and although it's working fine in Moodle, no notifications get sent for new Open Forum posts. Standard Forum posts are working fine. I've checked the subscription settings and all looks correct, the schedule is setup, but no email notifications. Anyone else come across this, is there an extra setting somewhere for Open Forum?
