Thanks Andrew for setting up this plugin. The strings are now available in AMOS for the translation. The existing ES and RU translations (by Eloy Lafuente and Marina Glancy, respectively) were submitted as contributions into AMOS and are now waiting for the official lang pack maintainers to approve them.

    Hi,

    I was translating in AMOS portal:addons.strings.cost | local_moodlecloudsignup

which has the following English string:

    %price% %currency%

And I wonder what the meaning/purpose of the %_% enclosing characters is, and whether or not I could/should translate the words 'price' and 'currency'.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi German,

I'm glad you ask; these are placeholders that get replaced by the system before output, so they shouldn't be translated. This is string is a special case (since it does not contain anything to translate). Most of the times, the placeholders are used for URLs.

Thanks for your help translating this!

    Mathieu

    Thanks Mathieu,

I just updated Moodle Docs at https://docs.moodle.org/dev/Translation_FAQ#Placeholders_enclosed_within_.25_characters_.28.25example.25.29_must_not_be_translated .
Please feel free to add or change as needed.

    Hi there,

I was about to start translating this plugin but I don't see how the language can be changed on moodlecloud.com (the UI isn't the one shown in this screenshots), MoodleCloud is now always in English or am I losing something?

    TIA

Indeed, this plugin is obsolete and the strings are not used anymore.

Thank you Mathieu for your fast reply!

In Moodle itself and most of the Moodle sites (moodle.org, AMOS, MoodleNet...) the user can select the language and therefore they can be translated by the community, so it seems like a unusual movement that MoodleCloud doesn't have that option. Is there some reason for MoodleCloud being only in English now?
