A local plugin which automatically assigns enrolled users on a course into groups dependant upon information within their user profile. (Now with custom profile field support - called User Info Field in settings.) This plugin will create, update, and delete groups automatically to match the users on your course. All behaviour is event-driven and so will occur within page loads. The system can also monitor manual group setting changes and moderate them to ensure that groups are kept neat and tidy.

Hello Mark, is this plugin bug-free? Also, will it run on Moodle 2.9? Thanks.

Hi Mark, this is a very nice plugin.

I am running it on a 3.1 test site and it seems to work as expected for new courses. Is there a way tot activate the plugin for existing courses? I have also updated the plugin to work with a different profile field (added MSN to the array in both settings.php and profilefield.php).

I can't seem to find a specific node in the menu to manage the activation per course. Any hints?

It is important for every moodle site administrator to know: Is the development of your plugins (Auto Group, AutoEnroll) still alive? How can we make donations to support further development?

    Hello Emma,
thank you for this update, very much. This plugin is great for us, other moodlers (not from Colleges or Universities). I have just one question-request, if you could add Custom profile fields (Site administration>Users>Accounts>User profile fields) to this "Group by" dropdown, plugin will be 1000% more powerful (we don't have departments and Institution and ...). Administrator can add Custom profile field to account create form, and now that client (student) will be in that group in course. Thanks again that you jump in with this update.

You should read the release notes!!! That is what this update does with a great thanks to Arnaud Trouvé for the contribution!

    Hello Emma,
sorry, I admit it was my bad. Only thing that I can say in my defense is that find release notes is not easy, it should be by Versions and before Stats.
And I feel the need to explain to future users, custom profile field is here called "User info field" (by table name from database), and that is the same field you created using "Site administration>Users>Accounts>User profile fields" from admin menu, that most of us know as "Custom profile field".

I added the fact that we have custom profile field support to the description above - I realized it was kind of hidden! Arnaud thought it might be confusing if we had profile field and custom profile field but I wonder if we shouldn't in fact at least call the setting Custom Profile Field - open to suggestions....

I think, it would be more understandable for people who are reading description something like - Now with custom profile field support (called "User info field" in settings of this plugin).
Then custom profile field will get attention of the people who are using search, and it will give immediate explanation (association) with "User info field".

Always good to know I am not the only one using it. When I funded this originally it was out of need in my job working with multiple K12 districts. I can't even imagine how many hours it has saved me!

    Thanks for your feedback Vladimir.
I agree that « custom profile field » is more understandable for users so I created https://github.com/emmarichardson/local_autogroup/issues/2 where i explain the problem.
I’ll try to work on it when I’ll have free time.
