The Tabs Course Format displays sections as numbered tabs. The number of tabs is unlimited and the colour settings (text, hover, background, etc.) can be customized.

In addition, this course format includes an alternative Activity Tracking System, which tracks the following activity completion statuses:

  • Complete
  • Incomplete
  • Draft (saved by not submitted)
  • Not Attempted
  • Waiting for grade (student has submitted this activity)

As shown in the screenshot below, these statuses are represented in the form of an icon on the left side of the activity name.

The tabs also provide a quick overview of the activity completion status by showing a green bar, in sections where all activity are complete, and a red bar, where more work is required.  Students can also mouseover tabs to see a quick report of the activity statuses for any given week/section.

If you are using our Activity Tracking System on your site, it is recommended that you also install the My Progress block.

*Note that the activity tracking system (and My Progress block) can only be seen by students. Teachers can "login as" student so see this function in action.

This plugin isn't compatible with Moodle 3.0. It was actually created for Moodle 2.5. We are working on an update.

    Hi Johanna,

    Could you provide more info:

    Your Moodle version?
    Database type?
Did you install the plugin manually? If so, what directory did you upload to?

    Hi Fernando.
    The moodle version: 3.1.2
database: mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.7.16,
    Linux (x86_64) using EditLine wrapper
The installation was done with the moodle plugin installer

We are thinking of upgrading to version 3.1.3, is the plugin compatible?

    Thanks.

Yes, it should work with Moodle versions 2.9 - 3.2.
  • Just wondering . . .

I know this is serious feature creep, but is it easy to get this to have section names in the tabs?
There are two other tabs formats, but neither of them are updated for 3.2.

Hi Derek, the functionality to add names in the tabs already exists, although, I must admit, it still needs some work. If you use it, I suggest you try and keep your tab names short.

Thanks, yes it does exist, and you are right about it needing some work. Justification is not consistent. Plus some other alignment. But nice idea!!

I just installed this plugin, but I did not get a settings page. I cannot find the settings in the regular area of Site Admin. Where is it?

Oh! They are course-level settings! I was expecting a site-wide settings page. That's actually better! Thank you!

    Hi Fernando,
I do not have the status bar above the tabs. (the green, red, etc.) I checked the settings, but I don't seen where I can turn this on?
