Hello. I was glad to find a version of Quickmail for Moodle 2.1. It seems to be working except that FastCGI (on IIS) throws a 500 error every time a message is sent. The message gets sent, but I still get the error on screen. Does anyone have any suggestions for what might be happening and how to resolve it?

    Thanks,
    David

This block is affected by the bug described here:

    http://docs.moodle.org/dev/Themes_2.0_overflow_problems

The recommendation is to replace table based layouts with divs. It is totally unusable in a fixed width theme.

Hi. Does anybody know whether version 2011021812 works with Moodle 2.2 as is?

    Hi,
I'm really happy that this block was developed for 2.0, thank you.
I installed it on our Moodle 2.0.7 (Build: 20120109) (Apache 2.2.19, PHP 5.3.6, MySQL 5.1.60-rel13.1). I don`t have any problem during installation, I add the block without problems, but when a send an e-mail get the next error “Internal Server Error. The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@cipfplacostera.edu.gva.es and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”
The e-mail comes well. What’s the problem?

    Best regards
    Boro

I have a problem with quickmail, with moodle 2.2.1
When I tried to send a massive email, or a simple email, at the time I have to choose the Potential Recipents, can not add any.
Nothing happens if I use Add or Add all.

I tried to find any problems but there is no message of error, nothing happens, at all, but I can not add any reciper.

    Best regards.

At UMass Amherst we have added Quickmail (version 2011021812 ) to our Moodle 2.0.7 installation. Our users really like it, but we have been experiencing some serious problems with the layout. We tested in several themes and problems don't appear to be related to a particular theme.

    1. In the "Potential Sections" selector box, in multiple-section courses with long course names, the narrow width of the box cuts off the section information at the end of the name. Adding a horizontal scroll bar or making the text wrap might help this.

As a fix, our programmer has truncated the beginning of the section name that feeds into the select id="groups" option. We now see only the course and section information: for example instead of 1123-UMAMH-SCH-MGT-310-SEC02-52054, we only show SCH-MGT-310-SEC02-52054.

Because long group names will also break the layout, we have limited group names to 30 characters (in the create group screen).

    2. In the "Potential Recipients" selector box, because each course member's name is followed by the names of the groups and sections they belong to, each selector overflows the width of the box. Not only is it cut off, but it pushes the overflow to the right, and since the Role filter drop-down and Filter by Section selector box are right-aligned in that block, they get pushed out of view and can't be used at all.
The layout breaks in Firefox (Mac & WIndows) and in I.E 9. In Chrome & Safari, Mac & Windows, the names are still truncated, but the layout is not displaced.

Our programmer resolved this for us by feeding only recipients names into the Recipient lists, and not the groups and sections they belong to. We don't feel it is all that useful to see the group/section membership info in this location anyway, and the entire screen is now a lot cleaner.

    3. Related to problem #2, if recipients with long names are added to the "Selected Recipients" list, that box stretches to the right. The Role Filter drop-down menu is pushed completely off the screen and the Potential Recipients box is cropped so that you can't even get at the vertical scroll bar.

Our fix for problem # 2 also fixed this (as long a no one has a name more than about thirty characters.

Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone have a better solution?

Can anyone follow up to my query above of 11 Oct 2011 (echoed by others). I've just downloaded the current version (Release 2011021812), but am stuck with the same problem.

After testing this out in development, it appears as if I'm running into a similar instance as the others. As a student, I'm seeing a screen that says "you do not have permission to send emails with Quickmail", although I have turned on the setting site wide to allow for it.

However, the email does go out to the intended recipients shortly after submitting. Any ideas to why this is happening? I'd like to put this into production at our school but I worry that this will create some confusion by our faculty. Thanks!

Success! When the Quickmail block was added, it did not change the site wide student role to allow for sending of emails. Our IT contact was able to find that role option and switched it over to "allow". Things work perfectly now...

We had Quickmail in version 1.9.14+ and upgraded our moodle to 2.2.2+ (March 15 weekly build) and installed this plug in.

When we tried to access the course that have this plugin, we have this error:

    Table "block_quickmail_config" does not exist

The course is only available if we hid the block and not use it.

Any ideas why this is happening?

    Thank you

    Adam,

We really like this block and our instructors want to use it when we upgrade to Moodle 2.2, but I'm having one major issue that would be a show stopper for us... suspended accounts still show up on the recipients list. I've confirmed through testing that they receive the emails as well.

Is this something you are aware of or would be willing to fix?
