Changes in Marking Manager version 3.3.2 (2017101000):

In previous versions of the Marking Manager, the cronjob was used to calculate the number of activities that require grading in all courses. For sites with many courses and/or students, this sometimes meant that the cron job would run for a long time and, as a result, put a strain on server resources. In this latest version, we have made the following changes to address this problem:

  1. The cron job method has been replaced with a “Manual” option, which allows users to refresh the block only when needed.
  2. When counting activities, the block will only scan courses where the user has teaching privileges.
  3. It is now possible to only include courses that 1) reside inside preselected course categories AND 2) have the block installed at the course level. Previously, it was one or the other.
  4. There is a new option that allows admins to only see courses where they have teaching privileges.
  5. There is a new option to skip hidden courses when counting activities
  6. Various bug and format fixes

Even with these changes, calculating ungraded activities across many courses is still a resource-intensive task. We will continue to work on improvements and we welcome the input of other developers that have other ideas/suggestions on how to increase efficiency.

Marking Manager Screenshot

At the site level (front page) the Marking Manager block lists all Assignments, Forums and Quizzes that require grading. At the course level, the Marking Manager has 2 parts:

Block: provides quick overview of the number of Assignments, Quizzes and Forums with the following status:

  • Requires Grading
  • Graded
  • Not Submitted

Clicking on these status links  will open the marking Interface. The block also contains links to a custom Progress Report (see screenshot below). At the bottom part of the block, a status report shows the number of students that:

  • have not logged in for x days
  • not submitted actities for x days
  • have a overall grade less than x percent

Marking Interface: allows teachers to grade Assignments, Quizzes and Forums within a single interface. This interface consists of a left section, where activites are selected, and and right section, where activties are graded. See screen shots below for more info.

Thanks for the great plugin! I bump into one small problem. I have three different assignments which need to be graded in my course. However, for only one I can actually see the student submission. The only unique property of this assignment seems that it is an individual assignment, while the others are group assignments. Can this be the cause; can FN Marking Manager handle group assignments? If this is not the cause, anyone any idea what it can be? Thanks in advance!

Hi Frank. All group filters are contained in the top part of the grading interface. If your course is set up to have forced separate groups, then you'll need to select the desired group from the menu on the top of the page (same as the standard Moodle method).

    Hi Fernando,
Thanks for this great plugin. Eagerly waiting for a Moodle 3 compatible version. We are using the current version with moodle 3.0.1 and there are two issues to note:
    1) the block showing total number of quiz "Requires Grading" instead of only from the teacher's group (access all groups permission is set to prevent)
    https://goo.gl/photos/hxV1x4oSLVHSzhPL9
    2) In the list of Marking status "Requires Grading" the the same thing happens. The number on the left reflects the total number of ungraded assignments from all participants irrespective of any entry for the group the teacher is in. It should not even list that quiz in the first place.

Hope this would be of some help.

    Thanks,
    Sumanta

Hi - this is a great plugin, thank you! Please can you advise on the Frontpage settings. I have set it up but only an admin can see it on the dashboard, no other teachers can view it. I'm using Moodle 2.9. Thanks

One is for course page and another one is for FN Marketing block.
FN Marketing take almost 23 Second each time to load page.

My apologies for the delay in updating this block. . We're currently working on a solution for the long page load on the front page. On this issue, we've decided to add the option of updating the block during the Moodle cron job, instead of every page load. More info to come.

Hello. Looks like a useful plugin, however for me it doesn't work with grading workflow. Although an assignment is assigned to a specific grader, any tutor can mark it through the marking manager block. Is that a known issue or is there a way to avoid this? Thanks

This is a really useful block. Is there any discussion or future plans to incorporate Advanced Forums to populate as a required grading item?

Hi Jacob, currently there is no plan to incorporate Advanced Forums. As with all NED plugins, new features are added as funding becomes available. You can see a list of requested features here: http://ned.ca/plugins/#group

    Feel free to contribute smile
