Changes in Marking Manager version 3.3.2 (2017101000):

In previous versions of the Marking Manager, the cronjob was used to calculate the number of activities that require grading in all courses. For sites with many courses and/or students, this sometimes meant that the cron job would run for a long time and, as a result, put a strain on server resources. In this latest version, we have made the following changes to address this problem:

  1. The cron job method has been replaced with a “Manual” option, which allows users to refresh the block only when needed.
  2. When counting activities, the block will only scan courses where the user has teaching privileges.
  3. It is now possible to only include courses that 1) reside inside preselected course categories AND 2) have the block installed at the course level. Previously, it was one or the other.
  4. There is a new option that allows admins to only see courses where they have teaching privileges.
  5. There is a new option to skip hidden courses when counting activities
  6. Various bug and format fixes

Even with these changes, calculating ungraded activities across many courses is still a resource-intensive task. We will continue to work on improvements and we welcome the input of other developers that have other ideas/suggestions on how to increase efficiency.
Dear NED Plugin users:
We have been maintaining these plugins for many years and raising funds to keep this work going has been an ongoing challenge, especially in the last couple years. To keep these plugins alive, we must shift to a paid membership model. This decision was not taken lightly, since we value and appreciate the spirit of sharing that is demonstrated daily by the Moodle community at large. But we also don’t want to abandon our plugins and the schools that rely on them. We hope that this move will allow us to improve the quality of our plugins and keep pace with the timeline of the Moodle releases. We are still figuring out the details but it’s likely that we will offer a tiered membership system (ex. different prices for individuals vs schools) as well as options for non-profits. We look forward to updating our current lineup of plugins and to creating new plugins to meet the needs of learners and instructors alike.
If you or your school is interested in becoming a member, please complete this form

Marking Manager Screenshot

At the site level (front page) the Marking Manager block lists all Assignments, Forums and Quizzes that require grading. At the course level, the Marking Manager has 2 parts:

Block: provides quick overview of the number of Assignments, Quizzes and Forums with the following status:

  • Requires Grading
  • Graded
  • Not Submitted

Clicking on these status links  will open the marking Interface. The block also contains links to a custom Progress Report (see screenshot below). At the bottom part of the block, a status report shows the number of students that:

  • have not logged in for x days
  • not submitted actities for x days
  • have a overall grade less than x percent

Marking Interface: allows teachers to grade Assignments, Quizzes and Forums within a single interface. This interface consists of a left section, where activites are selected, and and right section, where activties are graded. See screen shots below for more info.

This plugin is part of set NED.

Is there a way to ensure that inactive students (those without a current enrolment in a subject as their access end date has passed) are not displayed in the block? Currently, it shows our active and inactive students and we do not want to mark work for students whose enrolment period has expired. Thanks!

Found this to be an excellent plugin but we have suddenly found that the system is incorrectly reporting submissions. It only lists a few students whose work is awaiting marking, whilst not listing many others. I was wondering how it recognises who owed what to whom, since I am wondering if it is the roles that are causing issues (almost all of our students are now listed as having multiple roles; could this be the issue?).

    Any updates do Moodle 3.4?

Hi Fernando, There seems to be an issue when the quiz has a lot of questions. It pushes out the complete layout of the site whereby you have to use the scroll bar at the bottom to scroll right across. It also goes behind navigation menus. I have 68 questions, it doesn't display the candidates name or question data, only the column names but no data underneath even though it does say 1 is required for grading. I am using adaptable theme (latest version) running moodle 3.4.2 (Build: 20180319).

I understand that the plugin doesnt yet fully support 3.4 but was wondering if you was aware of this issue and if there was a fix coming shortly for it or whether this a bug which wouldn't fix itself in an update?

    Thanks Andy

Hi , we do mainly distance learning, currently allocate an assignment to a teacher for marking as and when students submit the assignments, my question is this how do I set this plugin up so that the teacher can only see the students who's assignments have allocated to them instead of seeing all the assignments submitted.

Any idea on when PHP7 will be fully supported with plugin (Moodle 3.4+)?
Currently have issues running this plugin on Debian 9 and Moodle 3.4; after sometime the system becomes unresponsive.

Anyone know what's happening with this plugin?
The head teacher has found it to be amazingly helpful (to a point, as it needs some fixes) and has asked me to pursue getting it sorted for our organisation.

I've used the contact form twice in the last couple of months but no one has responded. sad

I don't seem to be able to message Toby Wingfield and the website for NED just says "coming soon" and "building our membership site".

Hi! I just installed this plugins but it's blank. Do I need to configure any settings for it to work? Thank you!

I need to know if I can somehow sort the tasks to be corrected by delivery date.
Because in the way it shows me now, it is by course total, sorts by the course that has the most tasks.
    Thank you

Would appear to no longer be functioning or installable? Filled in the form to no avail.

Ya looks like this plugin in no longer supported or being maintained. We had it working on Moodle 3.6.5, but anything after that it stops working. sad Too bad as it was a good little tool.

    @Shawn Peters
I was at a school who found it so useful they were willing to pay towards development. I managed to contact the dev in Vancouver via Google searching, said he was working on an update to be released and I joined the beta users group.
That was in 2019... there has been absolutely nothing from him in that entire time. It's basically abandonware now sad

Hi, we recently updated to Moodle 3.11. After the update, one of our teachers is getting an error message stating "Invalid course module ID" when trying to access one of his classes through the NED Marking Manager. Has anybody else experienced this? If so, have you found any solutions? Thanks very much.

Any chance of this plugin being developed for the paid version?
