Can Scales be used as "Pass / Fail" to show an activity as "red"? Now all assignments with scales show as "completed" even if given a failing grade. I tried to ask about this last August (https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=375005) but couldn't find a solution then.

    Hi, Samuli.

The system relies on completion settings for each activity. I'm not sure if that will work with scales.

Yes - Scales can be used with assignments and this plugin (I do this all the time), firstly you have to set the scale up correctly with the items listed in the correct order from lowest to highest, so 'fail, pass' would work but 'pass, fail' wouldn't work. This is a very common mistake that I see all the time, and if you are doing this, firstly create a new scale with the items listed in the correct order.

The way that scales work is each item is allocated a number from 1 to x, so in the example above a 'fail, pass' scale; fail = 1, and pass = 2. If you have a scale such as 'fail, refer, pass, merit, distinction' then fail would be 1, refer = 2, pass = 3, merit = 4 and distinction = 5.

Then in the assignment you have to set the pass score, if using the 'fail, pass' scale then the pass score would be 2, if using the other scale above the pass score would be 3. In some Moodles, the pass score will be 'hidden' and is only seen if you click on the 'more' option within the 'grade' subsection of the settings. (Note in very old moodles you had to set the pass score in the grade book, which was really hard to locate, but hopefully no-one is using a system that old now).

You then set the activity completion for the assignment to be complete when they have achieved a pass grade (in some versions of Moodle this will be listed as 'achieved a grade').

    Hope this helps

Dave, thanks a lot! I think it is the order that tripped us. The documentation is a bit unclear in places, let's update the Moodle Docs on this.

Hi, Thank you for creating this plugin. We use it extensively on our courses but I was wondering if it is possible to have a download to csv or xls option as we have users who require high contrast and the plugin is not visible for those users.

    Many thanks

    Hi, Clare.

There is an old improvement request for an export. I haven't done anything about it. I welcome a contribution for that if someone has the time.

In the meantime, you can change the colours of the block. That is possible in the global settings of the block (and affects the block globablly).

    Hi, Sebastian.

In more recent versions, I took that out after the new messaging system was introduced and causing errors in the plugin. If there is someone who knows about the new messaging system and would be willing to help reintroduce that, I'd welcome the help.

    Hi,

    Hi again,

I still have the problem with an empty student list when I go to "Overview of students". I have courses where it works just fine and others where it dos not.

How do I add pictures to my post here?

    Flemming

    Hi, Flemming.

That sounds like a bug. Please report that on the Tracker. If you can add steps to replicate the problem, that would be useful.

    Hi
Wondering if you would be able to add the ability to choose a grouping in the 'visible only to' drop down? We use both groups and groupings. It would be reeeeeally useful to be able to select a grouping sometimes instead of a group smile
    Cheers

This block appears as it should for administrators - but not for teachers or students.
I can't see any issues with settings or permissions so I'm stuck!
What else should I check please?

Hi Michael, I posted a bug report last year (https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/CONTRIB-7387) and also a post here about it (July 18th 2018) and did not receive any reply to either.
My courses are about to begin again this year and I'm worried about having the same issue.
Is there a way to get support for this plugin?

    Hi, all.

The messaging is back, thanks mostly to Jono Fowler! You'll need to be using the new messaging from Moodle 3.4 onwards to use that.

Michelle: It was nice to meet you the other day at the MoodleMoot. I'm thinking about how to combine groups and groupings in a way that works.
Clare: I tested the block with admin, teacher and student roles, but it seemed to work. Perhaps you could turn on debugging in your site to get more clues. If you do find some, perhaps you could report this as an issue on the Moodle Tracker.
Stephen: I've commented on your tracker issue.

I have an activity that requires view and file submission to be complete. As a student, I tested the plugin for the above scenario
    Results:
    1) I uploaded a file - I saw yellow in the progress bar - viewed by not completed.
    2) I removed the submission - I get a green - Activity Completed.

My students must have found this as they are now saying that they submitted the file but it is lost by the system - Look there is even a green mark for completion.

    Is this a bug?
