AJAX Marking Block

Blocks ::: block_ajax_marking
Maintained by Picture of Matt Gibson relaxing in the AlpsMatt Gibson
Shows a teacher all of the unmarked work which has been submitted by their students across all of the courses they teach in. It's most useful when placed on the front page, and it allows the work to be viewed and graded through a pop-up interface, which then updates the block once the work is marked.

Please note: This plugin is no longer supported for newer versions of Moodle, and I'm afraid I don't have the time to give it the full rewrite that it really needs. Sorry sad

The aim of this block is to avoid having to search through each of your courses to find out whether there is anything that needs marking.

When placed on the front page, it shows teachers how many pieces of work need to be attended to, broken down by course, or by cohort. The list then expands when clicked to show individual modules and students. When you click on a student, a pop-up opens, allowing the work to be marked and saved, then the block updates itself to show one less item in need of attention.

The block has been thoroughly tested on a copy of a large university database with >50,000 users and has been optimised so that it doesn't impact on DB performance at all.

Current status is that the development is paused (bug fixes only) whilst I work on other urgent projects. Once the Moodle logging 2.0 proposal in core is built and released, there will need to be a complete rewrite to make it maintainable for the future, but that is some way off.

If you want to stay current, follow @AJAX_Marking on twitter, which has general information about new features etc.

Make sure AJAX and Javascript is enabled in the Teacher's user profile. I've just updated MoodleDocs to include this vital piece of information.

Hi Ray, How do we enable AJax and Javascript in ALL the Teachers user profiles as we have 800 staff? I can see where to edit this on an individual basis but it will be too time consuming for everyone.

    Many Thanks
    Dave

Okay. Thanks to david Anderson's query I found the path to enabling teachers ajax and javascript. Now the number of pending markings appear in the block but no access to them nor even the kind of exercise(s) we are talking about. Config and groups tab are not available yet so it says when you click them. Any suggestions?

I am getting closer to what it should look but something is preventing me from seeing more detailed info. at the moment all I am getting is the total of pending assignments:

    Marking
    Total to mark: 8
    CoursesGroupsConfig

    (8) CF109

Moodle Version 2.2 if I click on an assignment to grade an error message appears. Red field: Error: Pleas contact your administrator.

    What could that be?

@Ray - thanks, I thought that was on by default for everyone. I think I'll remove that requirement as it seems to cause confusion.

@John - if you file a bug report with a screenshot, I'll be able to diagnose the issue for you.

@Jurg - I've not tested on 2.2, yet but ought to get to that later today or Wednesday. Apologies for the delay.

Matt - I just upgraded my Moodle to 2.2 last week, and I miss the marking block already. If you need someone else to help test your version for 2.2, please sign me up.

@Brian - working as fast as I can! Many apologies for the delay: loads of new stuff almost ready for release, but many small bugs keep popping up. I think I'll just make a beta release later today and throw it out there for you guys to test.

This new version (2.1.5b2) ought to fix all the above issues. Please file bugs in the tracker or message me if not. I don't get notifications of comments posted here, so those two ways are better.

    Hi Matt and All!
Please help me to resolve the trouble with russian fonts in Moodle 1.19.17+, UTF-8. Block works but all texts are not readable. Other trouble is in damaging of expandable menus in AadvarksPro theme.
    Thanks in advance!

Hi Jury, I'll be reviewing 1.9 code starting next week, so please file a bug in the tracker with screenshots and I'll take a look. How can I enter Russian text to test it?
