Possibly this was a debate once upon a time, but I reckon the default for links should be to show the link in the same window, not pop-ups. Unwitting teachers have students opening browser sessions and tabs all over the place!

For my mind, never a truer word has been spoken about Moodle usability than here by Tormod Aaagaard:
"the most important thing is that we don't have to scroll so much"
When I click on a user, then forum posts, it only seems to show the most recent 5 posts, then I need to click next to see 5 more etc. How could I view all of a user's posts or say 100 posts at a time? e.g., I would need to click 1188 times to see all of Tim Hunt's forum posts here - yikes!
On going to a forum, a good chunk of the screen real estate is taken up by banner, nav bar, the forum subscription links, and the forum description. In many cases, one has to use vertical scrolling just to get to the most recent post
And then, forum threads can't be sorted, so one is stuck with looking at them in reverse chrono order by last post, but in thread mode.
Furthermore, once one has read posts, on MyMoodle it doesn't indicate that they're no longer unread until one has logged out and back in again

And the biggee, for me - one is forced to use web-interface to post to a forum - as opposed to sending via email, like a mailing list e.g., Google Groups
