Moodle in English -> General help -> Logging on 101 -> Re: Logging on 101

Hi, Katrina,

You would like to set up a Moodle course but your school does not have on its server. Hmmm... If you search for "free Moodle hosting," you will find several sites (like http://ninehub.com/) where you can set up a free course.

You may find that these free sites are less than ideal when thirty of your students try to work on your site at the same time, but at least you will be able to get to know Moodle. You will be able to create courses, experiment a bit, and learn as you go.

It will be fun! smile

I would not advise putting real student info on any of these sites, of course.

Hope that helps a little.

Hi, Kathryn,

One way to do this is to create a text file with appropriate user info and upload it to your Moodle installation. I do not know if this is practical for you, but it is not hard to do.

If you do 100 a day, you'll be done in just over two weeks, right? smile

Anyway, the information you need for this is here - http://docs.moodle.org/en/Upload_users

Hope that helps!

Anthony is right. That's a good way to go.

If a group of math teachers, for example, created resources in a "math vault" course, then the teachers at the school could easily import those resources into their own courses at any time. Or is that not what you are looking for?

If you allow files to be uploaded, you could use a wiki as a virtual hard drive for each student. That would work well, I think.
