There are 3 possible settings here

Yourself (Draft) - Only you and the administrators can see this entry.

Anyone on this site - Anyone who is registered on this site can read this entry.

Anyone in the world - Anyone, including guests could read this entry.

Sounds to me like publish to yourself (draft) will do the job.

But maybe Ger's suggestion re the journal module would be better for you.

Sorry if I am not seeing something obvious.  It seems to happen a lot since I turned 50.
