Video project

Hi Everyone,

I'm interested in starting a virtual video student exchange program next school year (September 2008). My school has grades 4-9 (Newfoundland, Canada) and we have some experience in video production. What I envision are students making little (2-3 minute videos) about aspects of their daily lives (school, free time, hobbies, cultural events, etc...) and sharing it with a partner school/class. As the year goes on the students could really get to know one another and each others country. It would be like video pen-pals and I think the kids would get a real kick out of it.

We've participated in the Global Virtual Classroom before, but I want something simpler, something more accessible.

If any one would be interested in such an endeavor, please let me know. If you know of an established program, please let me know as well.

The whole thing could be hosted on our moodle site, or someone elses....

Thanks,

David

Hi David,
I actually used a database activity that allowed you to upload a video/file and add a description. Then users could leave comments etc.

Another thing you could do is setup a site for video sharing such as youtube. We use an app called PHP Motion. http://video.dearbornschools.org
It allows anyone to register and upload videos, but I approve which ones get added. The nice thing is once a video is on the site, you can grab the embed code and paste it in Moodle and then use it in discussion boards, activities, etc.

And finally, check out DimDIm.com and how it integrates with Moodle. You could have the students meeting with live video and audio exchanging ideas with an interactive whiteboard.

Best of Luck,
Chris
