Failure to Send Confirmation Email

When I try to register as a new user on my moodle site, it keeps on coming up with a message saying email was tried to be sent but failed therefore I cannot login.

I have left the SMTPhost blank. Should I change this??

I have also set up cron.

Can anyone help me with my problem?

Thanks

Jamiul

Where do you see the error message? Can you post it here exactly.

What sort of server are you running. You can leave SMTPHost blank only if you have a working Sendmail (or equivalent) on a Unix style system. That is you can send mail from the machine using the mail command.

If that doesn't work, you should put in the name of a SMTP machine that you are permitted to use. You might have to ask your network admin for this information.
