Changing the name / appearance of blocks

Hello, all first time I've used these forums.

1. How would I change the name of the blocks I am using on a frontpage, for instance instead of "Main Menu", how would I change the wording to just "School Menu".

2. How would I change the appearance of the blocks to jazz them up?

An example of what I mean is on this school website:

http://www.bucksgfl.org.uk/resources/

How have they put the colourful looking header on the blocks?

and here:

http://www.camelsdalefirstschool.org.uk/Moodle/

where they have changed the background colour and made the block circular..

Many thanks for your help!

Changing the block styles and part background/text colours will be a CSS thing. Look in moodle/theme/themeName/ at the styles_.css files.

Cheers Dave, do you know if changing styles in one of the CSS files is affected by upgrades to moodle, i.e. are your manually updated CSS styles affected by an upgrade?

I THINK I've read on forum threads previously themes don't always survive moodle upgrades in tact, but don't quote me on it. Best thing to do when upgrading moodle is backup your theme with everything else before doing it in case.
