Corrupt files problem is back!!!

Ok folks,

This is the first time in 9 months that I have had a problem with a Moodle upgrade.  I went from 1.3.1 to 1.4 dev and I lost the ability to create backups and view user images on one of my sites!!

If I FTP the files from Moodledata, they look fine, but if I access them within Moodle they are corrupt.  I thought this might be a permissions problem, but everything seems to be fine.  My host requires 755 on main directories (moodledata) and everything else inside it is 777).  One interesting note though, I installed the exact same upgrade to a different server and it looks fine, hmmmmmm.

The "bad" site is http://webclassroom.gis4u.com

and the "good" site is http://classroom.socialstudies4u.com

Any ideas?

Marc

Marc,

Probably a couple things are going on here, but the first thing to check is whether your sites will run on standard themes. I noticed that your "bad" site (http://webclassroom.gis4u.com/theme/gis4u_033004/styles.php) is missing some of the styles.php info that does, in fact, appear in the "good" site (http://classroom.socialstudies4u.com/theme/ss4u/styles.php).

Can you be specific about the error message you are getting with the corrupt files? Are you accessing them via a resource (what is your method)?

Do the user images appear as question marks? Or do they not exist at all?

Don't worry. We'll figure this out.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

Thanks for chiming in.  Actually, I don't know what happened, but everything is working fine now.  Personally, I think this was an issue of the host changing the PHP settings.

It seems like it was more of a binary/ASCII issue.  I was getting the X for the images and all the binary resources like Word docs, PDFs and PPT files were coming back corrupted.  EXCEPT, when I accessed them through FTP.

I deleted the entire Moodle directory and started fresh.  Now seems to be working fine.  A few left over glitches, but I am re-uploading those files to correct the problems.

Thanks again.

Marc

Glad that you are rolling. I don't know if you have explored the CVS stuff, but it makes upgrading a real breeze. Also, it avoids binary/ASCII issues.
