Changing order of postings in Forums

How do you do this? I'd like to put 3 postings on the front page of the site - no problem - but would like to change the order & as they are on the front page, make them uneditable by everyone apart from the admin.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The newest one appears at the top. The only way to do it is to post in reverse chronological order. Does this help?

Just a thought - I have been asked this question once or twice before - and without fail it turns out that the requirement has come from a desire to do something that might be better achieved by a method other than forums. You might want to enlarge on why you want to do this...

Thanks for getting back to me. You're probably quite right. It's basically laying out the front page of the site, to introduce the courses & give basic instructions. I have the site news in the middle in forum format, on the left the course descriptions & the front page description on the right. It's using the middle space & keeping it static that I need.

Yes, this is what I'm after. And from what I can gather, it's not possible to exclude people from replying to postings in the Forum on the front page of the site - a shame.

Hello!

The forums in the courses allow an admin/instructor to not allow responses to a post.

We could just ask for this kind of feature in the "News" Forum on the site home page and Martin will let us know if it is possible.

It is possible to exclude people from replying to the news forum. Just choose "No discussions, no replies" for the setting "Can users post to this forum" in the forum settings.

Thanks - where does this appear - on the front page itself or on the editing page?

I have also come across a strange change happening - I put the 3 posts in the order I want them - entering the last first etc... but when I go back to them on the front page they are mixed up & not in the order I wanted them! The dates are in chronological order but they were entered in a different order. Annoying to say the least. I'll try yet again & leave more time between each post.

Hi Gustav!

That selection is available on the "News Forum" configure page in the Courses when the "Update" button is clicked. It is not available on the "Site Settings" page for the "News Forum" on the Home page.

WP1, why would you expect to set the forum properties on the site settings page? Forum properties are set on the forum settings page. There is no difference whether the news forum is in a course or on the site home page.

In the main menu (if your news forum is there) you'll see an update icon next to the news forum. Otherwise look at the news forum directly (as admin): eg http://s94988317.onlinehome.us/moodle/mod/forum/view.php?id=1

Hi Gustav & Martin!

I got a bit disoriented to where things could be located on the Home page. It is different from and yet similar to the Main course pages.

Thanks for you persistence and help getting inexperienced Moodlers to understand the process that solves this problem.
