Problem with LaTeX filter

Problem with LaTeX filter

Hi folks smile

We had the LaTeX filter activated on our Moodle server a long time ago - November 2005, version 1.4.3. It worked perfectly, for example $$\LaTeX{}$$ was rendered as a picture. The post from back then is still online.

During one of the upgrades and server migrations the filter was dropped. For version 1.8.3 we have reactivated the LaTeX filter. But now all the rendered LaTeX pictures have two big apostrophes left and right (see the attachment).

Funnily, those documents from 2005 have the same problem, too!

Is this problem known? Can somebody give a hint where to debug?

Best wishes, Martin smile

Hi folks smile

Our server administrator fixed it. But before it really worked we had to delete all the existing images (gif) in this folder [1]. So that's that. Have a nice week. See you around in the Moodle forums smile

We also had LaTex working but hasn't worked in a while.  I am using Moodle 1.9 and ran the Tex Debug program and received this message.  Do you know how to help me resolve this problem.  smile

Message received when running filter/tex/texdebug.php:

Warning: system() [function.system]: Unable to fork [D:\Moode_19/filter/tex/mimetex.exe ++ -e "D:\moodle_19_data/filter/tex/d1e56126337cd6e29b16fe759232ce90.gif" -- "\Large f(x)=\\Bigint_{-\\infty}^x~e^{-t^2}dt"] in D:\Moode_19\filter\tex\texdebug.php on line 138
Can not output detailed information due to security concerns, please turn on debug mode first.

Hi,

There are many different reasons why you might get this message. Here are two to check out:

  • permissions may have been altered on the server you are using (especially if someone else is hosting the installation for you).

or...

  • if you are running your own server then you could try rebooting it.

The second option sounds a bit drastic, but if $$LaTaX$$ then starts working again it might help you fault-find the problem.

Hope this helps,

Ian.
